Hi guys.
I am getting the insurance, and there is a question about security device. Does the imported JDM Prius Gen 4 has Thatcham Approved Cat 1? Or Cat 2? Which is just immobilizer i think.

Thanks for help!

Mike

Thatcham wouldn't have tested or approved alarms or immobilisers on a Japanese Domestic Market vehicle.

Hi Frosty,

I’m curious about the security device on my 2016 Gen4 Prius Excel which I bought new in the UK. Do you know if it’s a Thatcham approved & if so is it Cat1 or Cat2, as MikeMaMan referred to? I guess you’ll know.

Probably a Cat 2 immobiliser, and a Cat 1 alarm.

As i understand if you got your Prius from Uk dealer, it would have Tacham Cat 1 installed by default! (cat 2 included)

Do you know what what kind of alarm system, if any, is installed by default in JDM cars? And how insurance company can check it? I mean is the car is stolen, how can they prove it wasn't installed?!

As it is a Japanese Domestic Market vehicle, you will have to insure it as a grey import. JDM cars are usually different specifications to European market cars and don't have VINs - instead frame numbers or chassis numbers are used, so insurers will probably be able to tell from the registration that it is an import.

I did put it down as an import from Japan. Its just their website is asking for security system installed. I left it as a Thatcham cat 1.
