7afe to 7age conversion

Hi I've seen a lot of this conversion from the 4age to the 7age using the 7afe block I was wondering if it is still worth it to push more power to instead swap the top end i.e. head from the 4age 16 or 20v increase cam lift with aftermarket cams,l and respective pulleys, forged rods for the increased power and a stand alone ecu for future tuning capabilities. I understand it is an investment and I've been told to just go for the 3sgte motor instead although still interested in this build. My main concern was looking through forums I found there may be a decrease in compression from the stock 9.6:1 to a 8.8:1 and hence would not allow for power gains at all I am also aware most of the power gains will be at high rpm. Any advice would be appreciated

I've not done this build. In general, it is of course easiest to go the most trodden path. There is more expertise and more parts. But I'd also say it depends on what you've got access to. Building a 7age appears fairly straight forward in theory but getting all the parts is probably what will take the most time. Going down the NA route will never be the quickest or cheapest, and it will yield less power. But, the sound and the revs...

Getting a 3S engine is the quickest, and probably cheapest way to get more power.

I'm only looking to push numbers towards the 200 mark hoping this is possible with itbs down the na route but like you say the 3s engine does make over that stock at least with all gt4 parts

Start collecting parts now and eventually you will get there. Check with people like Hurley motorsports for advice. They've got many years of experience building 4AGE, 3S and other Toyota engines.
