Mark 4 Toyota Yaris Beware!!!!

Recommended Posts

Poor factory fit alarm - if even equipped with an alarm plus easy access to the bonnet release handle via reaching in via a smashed window makes Yaris an easy target.

My previous Peugeot, you couldn't get to the interior bonnet release handle unless you had the passenger door open as the interior door panel covered the handle when the door was shut - meaning you would need to beat the deadlocks & open the door to then pull the bonnet release.

So This Happened About 2am This Morning To My Wife's 22 Plate Toyota Yaris.

My Wife Is A Care Worker At A Nursing Home & She Found Her Car With The Front End Gone. We Have Front & Rear Nextbase Dash Cameras From & Fitted By Toyota But Nothing Picked Up

 So Please Secure Your Cars.

I know this is not what you want to hear, but we had a Nextbase camera fitted to our Yaris by Toyota last week.  The default setting is parking assistant mode is turned off so that may explain why the camera didn't pick anything up.

So update still waiting for parts as car is being repaired.

They caused £6k of damage.

Now finding out they are doing quite a lot of Toyota Yaris cars.

They are popping off the front grill snapping off the headlights & stripping the front bumpers off.

We ordered a Battery for the Nextbase 380GW as Toyota don't supply 1 as they didn't even know the Battery extra.

£20 from Nextbase website.

We are getting a new alarm on it but when I spoken to my mate who runs the alarm company he said we had another yaris which nearly happened to them but thiefs got disturbed but as they are not taking the bonnet it won't trigger the alarm due to the bonnet not being lifted.

So I'm scared it might happen again as my wife works at care home.

I'm not sure what else I can do to protect the vehicle.

Only other thing is to put micro switch/trigger switch behind the grill & bumper.

Toyota are having alot of the Aygo & Yaris reported as people are buying damaged vehicles & made to order car parts.

We have a method of avoiding this type of theft in our house. When my wife gets a new car she quickly sets about ensuring that all of the trim, bumpers and panels are covered in an increasing number of scratches, dings and scrapes. I then add to the mix with my ham-fisted attempts with touchup paint, thereby guaranteeing that no thief in their right mind would ever take any parts off our cars..

swap out some of the bolts for security bolts, may be 2-3 different types

Unfortunately this type of crime has been going on for at least 10 years so is not a new thing -https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp

Admittedly today's production shortages may well mean that thieves widen their scope of vehicles they target. Also most car alarms are designed to prevent theft of cars or theft from the inside of cars, rather than theft of external parts.

A car alarm may not necessarily prevent thefts .....  How often does one hear a car alarm going off and do nothing?

Perhaps security bolts may help the best as thieves need the parts to be in good shape or won’t get paid for. Yaris has always been a popular car in copart as written off vehicle and car traders buy those and needs part for fixing them. Dealers quote long waiting times and the easiest, cheapest and fastest way is to pay low life’s to steal. Lovely people live around.

If you buy the dash cam from your dealer it DOES come with a battery

Always look on the bright side of life. You Yaris now rattles a lot less than mine. 😉

Seem to remember years ago, maybe at a car show, there was a car with an exterior proximety alarm and it was a 'talking' alarm, so get too close and it warned you to back off. Not sure if they still do them today, but don't see why not and probably a feature you can turn on/off as when needed cos we had few aftermarket alarms with add-ons that could be used as and when.

I had a Clifford G4 Concept 600 system fitted to a car around 20 years ago - it had the interior & exterior protection sensor that would give a warn away beep if anyone got close to a window to look inside the cabin.

A lot of these security systems when fitted where poorly set up as most alarm fitters just couldn't be bothered to adjust the sensor for exterior protection leading to oversensitive warn away beeps.

Yes I have 1 on my vauxhall zafira gsi turbo.

Brilliant alarms always had Cliffords on our cars but looking into the pandora alarms as my mate is a alarm specialist & recommended the pandora mini bt it tells you on your phone when there's been attempted or it some hits your car it shows you on the app which sides of the vehicle has been touched aswell you can adjust the sensitivity yourself.

Looking into magnetic sensors which can be attached to panels as they just hitting the grill 1st.

Also going to install additional siren behind the grill for deaffing the !Removed!.

I don't know what else to do my wife needs a car as she is a end of life career & doesn't need this after patient dying on you & the last thing you watching these !Removed! stripping your car while you ring the police & they are saying it's not a police matter.

I thought all specs had a perimeter alarm system ( eg, open door, boot or bonnet, alarm is triggered ). Looking at the photo, it looks like they never opened the bonnet, so knew it would set off alarm. I did also see a photo around 6 months ago in Birmingham of mk4 with all wheels stolen also. 😡😡

On Dashcam, you have “parking mode”. If this is enabled, it starts recording if there is any movement whilst you’re away from car. You can set level - min, normal or max on next base cameras. I’m sure others are the same.

Sorry it’s too late now, but worth checking camera for this mode being set. Camera has to have a back-up Battery within it though or wired to perm live. You may have captured footage of the Neanderthals.

The Toyota (Nextbase) dash-cam fitted by Toyota has the ability to fit a small internal Battery which allows it to operate in what is called parking mode. This means it will operate if the car is disturbed even when the ignition is turned off. The batteries can be purchased from Nextbase and are easily fitted.

The Toyota Nextbase dash cams fitted at my local Toyota dealer already have the Battery fitted in the front camera but you as the user has to activate the parking mode function via the smart phone app.

Look at the 3 small LED on the front camera - the blue light on the left will appear solid when the internal Battery is charging ( ignition must be switched on )

If the blue light doesn't light up with the ignition ON then no Battery is installed.

Part number for the battery should be: NBDVR380BAT

Just activated the parking mode for my missus Yaris Cross.

Switched parking mode on in the settings via the camera app, restarted the car & blue led light now solid on the dash cam meaning the Battery is now charging while the ignition is on.
