What paint?

I have a 2014 Auris hybrid in plain white(040). I’m looking to repaint the edge of the bumper where I’ve scraped it.

what sort of paint did Toyota use on these? Is it a single layer without a lacquer coat?

Solid paint with a clear lacquer.

I went to a local trade paint supplier with the paint code and they made me up a bottle of touchup in acrylic, ok for small chips and dings

Toyota 040 is superwhite . Halfords do a 2 set touch up already made up.

It depends on how deep the scratch is will determine how well it will look.

We had a few stone chips and was advised by a national mobile repairer not to use the lacquer and just use the top coat. The reason was if it had not gone through to the bare metal the application of lacquer can cause high spots which need to be rubbed down.

I took his advice and cleaned the area and applied the top coat with the very fine brush supplied. It worked and can't notice them at all now.

Obviously if they are to deep you will have to use both lacquer and top coat. The set also comes with a small abrasive for rubbing down high spots.
