Launching An Auto Supra For 1/4 Mile

Hi Guys

Took the Supra for a blast out at York dragway to see just what she could do.

Was mildly disappointed at the times, but the heat had a lot to do with it and she needs servicing etc.

The big question is, does anyone have any tried and proven method for getting a good launch when using an auto gearbox?

Tried lots of different methods, Overdrive Off, Traction Control Off, Spoiler Off, revving while holding the foot brake in etc...

Does anyone know the best technique?

Cheers

Synn

I've been looking into this myself as i wasnt too happy wiht my 1/4 times.

This october at Santapod im going to left foot the brake and rev to 3000rpm as after doing this i have noticed you can get a pretty good start off the line.

Also im leaving the traction control on as with all that power to the rear you can do with the grip.

Im going to turn overdrive off, it doesnt make any diffrence as far as i can tell to the change up points but by turning it off it wont change up to 4th as i found it did just before you hit the finish line. With the 4th gear disable it should shave a good bit of time off as its one less gear change to slow me down and full power right up to the end.

Some have said about sticking the box in manual mode but i dont see how this will help you at all because the autobox will change gears faster than you anyway plus the box changes up at 6500rpm anyway so if you decide to rev beyond that your wasting your time and your fuel as peak performance is around the 6000rpm range (cant remember exactly what it is).

By the way what happened you you at JAE?

the mean put it in 'manu' mode with the switch.. not use it as a manual.

In manu mode it decreases the time taken to change gears as .. by a small fraction anyway.. it dopesnt !Removed! the igntion as much during changes.

it could shave a quarter second off your quarter i guess.

I couldn't get it as far as 3000rpm with left foot braking, after about 2000 she wouldn't stay still....

I managed a 14.8 time, which in 29oC heat and with a possiblity that one of the intercoolers isn't working properly, wasn't too bad really.

Sorry about JAE... I was trying to make it, but my fiancee and I were taking her mum home. I wanted to stop off with her (she drives a Celica) but time just got away with us :( just bad timing I'm afraid.

Anything else on this year?

Santa Pod is a hell of a way to go and !Removed! expensive (£15 for 3 runs last I heard).... I can race at York for £15 all day ;)

I'll see what I can do though, because 2 identical UK Auto Supra's going up together would be wicked :D
