IQ paint issues

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi and thanks for taking the time to read my question.

I have seen on this forum posts about the white pearl paint peeling off of IQ's, mainly the roofs. I recently bought a 2013 IQ3 with a white pearl finish.

This morning, I have discovered paint peeling off just above the tailgate glass. Is this an issue with 2013 models?

I read somewhere it is only an issue with 2009 IQ's.

Many thanks, Paul.

FWIW we had a 2014 iQ in pearl white up until a few months ago - it had no problems with the paint at all.

Moved to the IQ forum.

The issue affected mostly the earlier IQs.

The paintwork is outside Toyota's paint and surface rust warranty.

You could approach Toyota regarding help under goodwill. However, in the past couple of years I believe Toyota have required the car to be under 10 years old (which yours is) and have a full Toyota service history. A Toyota dealer will need to inspect the issue before any goodwill help is considered.

Thank you to all that replied to my question.

I feel a little better knowing it mainly affected earlier IQ's, but still, I am feeling a little nervous of my recent purchase as there are signs of paint peel.

PM your chassis number an I can check if the car falls within coverage

Hi Devon Aygo.

As of yet, we don't have a copy of the registration document with the chassis details. We've had the car less than a week. Unfortunately, I never noticed it on the day of collection.

When we receive the registration document from the DVLA, I will message you.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Paul.

The Vin is on the car - on the dash, viewable through the windscreen (passenger side) passenger side B pillar, it may even be on a sticker on the tailgate - drivers side in front of the seat, lift the little flap

i can give you a partial vin by the reg

I contacted a local Toyota dealership and they directed me to their approved body shop in Surrey.

The guy was really helpful and mentioned to me, over the years he had resprayed quite a few IQ's with the same problem. Though not all pearl white IQ's have the paint peeling issue. Luck of the draw.

He took some photos of the damaged area and spent a good twenty minutes explaining to me the problem areas and what to look out for. He also mentioned, it's best not to use a high powered jet wash on the vehicle. So the car will always be washed at home with a bucket and hose.

Because of the age of our IQ, it shouldn't be a problem to get it rectified with Toyota UK. I just have to decide whether or not to keep the car once the ten year warranty has expired.

The trouble is, my wife has completely fallen for the car and I notice people constantly giving it a second look with a wow on their faces. I would be tough to let it go.

Once you get the paint repaired, i doubt you'll have any paint issues if Toyota do a good job. The rest of the body is fine. I had to go to a local body shop to get it resprayed.

We're still happy with our motor after 7 years of owning it. I want to get the alloys replaced next due to the terrible corrosion.

Hello to All, I bought a already used Toyota IQ (pearl white, 2012) on October 2021, on September 2022, the car started to have the paint pelling of. Right now I have no paint on the roof of the car. Does anyone had this problem solved by Toyota? I heard this was a fabric problem but I´m having trouble to have them admit it and solving it.

Thanks,

Bear in mind a 2012 car is well outside the 3 year paint warranty.

Depends what arrangements your importer (Toyota Portugal?) has.

In the UK, the latest position is that the car needs a Toyota service history and be less than 10 years old. Any help is under goodwill, rather than warranty.

Toyota Portugal may have different criteria.

Hello Margarida,

I think this topic has been explained very well in the posts before yours.

I also had the same problem with the roof of my IQ (which is from 2009) last year (2022). It's nothing out of the ordinary and it's not expensive to have it painted (between €70 and €100) in an unofficial but reliable workshop!

I think it was more of a problem at the time, related to the quality of the paint and varnish used.

Good morning and Merry Christmas!
