Oil in spark plug

On Sunday night the Rav started misfiring and running rough on a journey back from Scotland back to Yorkshire. We pulled into the next services which were about a mile away. The engine light didn’t show up. Anyway the breakdown guy came and had a quick look and put his machine on but nothing was showing on the code. He then took one of the spark plug lead things out and it was covered in oil only just the 1st one so he put it down to that but as a precaution they recovered us home anyway.

Have asked around a few locks garages and have been told various reasons but nothing definitive as to what it could be. Been told rocker gasket, spark plug tube, engine ring or something like that it sounded. Anyway so what I’m asking is has anyone experienced this before. We’ve had this Rav since 2008 and apart from the pipe that you fill in for petrol corroding and normal and wear and tear nothings gone wrong with it till now. It’s currently done 117K but not sure if that would make a difference.

Likely to be rocker gasket and spark plug tubes gaskets. You need to check oil for coolant and coolant for oil to make sure nothing more than that. You have to start from there and when removing all plugs and replace these two gaskets then you will have better picture of anything more needs work on. You can’t really tell without dismantling and look close. 👍
