Hybrid Health Check

While my wife's 1.5 hybrid Yaris was having its service we decided to have the 12v Battery replaced because its 8yrs old.

We are being told that its has failed its Hybrid Health check because the Battery has been changed and we have to bring it back after it has been driven for 500miles is this normal?

Does having the 12v battery changed require a Hybrid health check to be carried out?

For warranty purposes perhaps yes but I am not sure. For the car safety and reliability not, only need to measure if the inverter charges appropriately 14.5v and above.  Best to consult with the dealer which you bought the Battery from. 👍

So during the 500 miles what is happening?

Is the car in effect doing its own health check.

Not sure what is happening in the next 500 miles, perhaps some parameters stored into the ecu and then read by Toyota scan tool. The health checks it’s nothing but measures and tests which you can do at home too, or at least some of the, which are most important. All you need is a voltmeter, and obd 2 scan tool or adapter and phone app. I do this myself once or twice a year as my car is old and out of any warranty. All looks good. I can even get inside the hybrid Battery and check each individual cell , run Battery life tests or read voltages and deviations between cells, temperature, test the Battery cooling fan etc. My point is , don’t worry just drive and after 500 miles whenever you cover them visit the dealer to run your battery health to comply for the warranty if you have any. 👍

Shouldn't worry about it. Other members have previously had the same issue, and had to wait 500 miles or so before having the hybrid health check done successfully.

Disconnecting a 12v Battery or Deleting DTC are checked by the HHC and if noted the HHC will abandon and require the mileage to increase by at least 500 miles this is to ensure some unscrupulous person hasn't cleared a fault then attempted to get HHC cover and then make a warranty claim for what was a pre-existing fault the car needs to cover 500 iles without issue to get the HHC warranty cover.
