Weird starting problem

good morning everyone, not been on the forum for quite some time as all been well lately with the RAV

However,  2 weeks ago I visited a mate who lives approx 1/2. mile from the end pf a runway to a large civil airport. I left the rear door open on the rav as it was so warm and the car was unlocked. After approx 6 hrs I went to start the car ...nothing but all the lights on the dash were lit correctly and the car had a new Battery installed 3 months before..starter motor spinning over really good....never had this problem. So I started ''googling''  and decided to unplug the alarm ( original Toyota TVSS1B alarm.immobilser ) and then tried the ignition again - nothing ...tried a couple more times - unplug / plug and then it started...plugged the alarm back in while it was running and the engine died. Unplugged and it started...left running for 10 mins , plugged the alarm back  in  and the engine kept running...set off home and all went well until yesterday . The car is kept in a garage but the car is left unlocked and the windows open . I went start it and same result - lights on but not starting ...tried the alarm routine - nothing...Tried the other keys ( I have the two black keys and the grey key ) and the two keys work ok. Tried the usual key and it wouldn't start but when I hold another key near the ignition barrel it starts , runs for a minute then dies...The other keys work ok..

This is really puzzling as I have never had any starting problems / false alarm activations etc since I have owned the car from new in 1998. I have all the original Toyota keys as suppled when new .

Can the RFID chip in the key become faulty over time ?

Can I get a new key reprogrammed - to keep as a spare and use one of the original black keys for day to day use.

Vehicle is a 1998 rav 4 gx 5 door - owned from new.

Many thanks in advance

Battery is a brand new Yuasa heavy duty  ...alternator replaced by Toyota last year ...battery fully charged - car is kept on an optimate Battery maintainer while in the garage ...and the garage is dry and heated .

starter spins over as it should ...loads of juice in the battery

I am assuming you have checked the batteries in the keys, as you said one allowed the car to start when you held it close to the ignition barrel

Agreed change the key fob batteries.

there are no batteries in the keys ... This is an original 1998 system with separate alarm fob...Once the alarm is off you dont need the fob to start the car ...in fact I have let the fobs indoors to test all the keys and have used all the keys ...two master and one grey valet key ...

as previous ;- the key I normally use will not start the engine...but the  starter spins over great

the ''spare '' and grey valet key  will start the engine.

So I want to know of its possible for the RFIC chip inside the key to become faulty or corrupted...It has worked faultless for 24 years until I stopped at my mates near the airport...spooky but is it possible for the raid to become corrupted in any way ?

So, it is just one of your 3 keys (one of the main ones) that have become faulty/intermittent?

Airports have equipment that give out high power signals but it could just be a coincidence however unlikely.

Try contacting the company on this link and see what they say.
