Gearbox oil change..2010 1.3 semi-auto Yaris.

Good evening everyone, I recently took my car to Marshall Toyota Stourbridge for a gearbox oil change. My bill was £187, this included £125 for labour.

Does this seem to be a normal charge.

Well if they charge one hour labour for gear oil change then it’s about right,

That seems a lot of labour to drain and fill a gearbox surely its less than an hours work.

Yes, but it’s not just drain and refil bit preparation, removing under engine cover, waiting for oil to drain properly etc. , refilling afterwards. I don’t think any garage will charge less than an hour labour, perhaps some charge less per hour. 👍

£125 per hour labour i am not surprised people use independent garages that's daylight robbery.

Well yes, even if it takes 45mins, it's going to be an hour charge. I haven't needed to change this oil in any car I owned. If I did, will go with a trusted mechanic. 

An independent mechanic I guess would probably charge labour about 50-80£ for this.

I do myself and cost me only the oil price which is about £60 for 3ltr . Every 60-80k miles. Usually transmissions these days are filled for life, no need to change the oil but because I am on her second life and hope to take her through third one I do change the oil on regular basis 😂👌
