Avensis 1.8vvti Engine

I have a 53 plate Avensis Tourer T3X but I am disappointed by the lack of pull that the 1.8 engine provides. I have just clocked 20K miles and the performance seems to be getting worse. I test drove a hatchback with the 1.8vvti engine before ordering as there was not any tourers available and it seemed like a very pokey engine. I wondered whether anyone could tell me what could be causing the lack of power. :(

There are quite a few people who experience trouble with the 1.8 VVT-i, but it could be an ECU problem, or as I have found whenever I drive cars for a while, you get used to the performance. Afterall, a 1.8 in an estate will be a bit under-powered especially if there is any load in it, but if you think there is a problem, take it to Toyota, it's still under warranty.

Having bought an 03 Avensis with a 1.8VVT-i engine, I must say that I am very impressed with its performance - it flies!!!!! Especially after years of me driving French things containing Peugeot/Citroen 2.0HDi 90bhp diesel engines!!

Yes, so far I'm a happy Avensis owner!!! :) :D

Even without any load in it, my tourer is still sluggish. I thought it may be that the tourer is heavier than the hatchback but this is not the case, I have checked the weights on the Toyota website and the tourer weighs exactly the same as the hatchback. I have now booked into a local dealer for inspection.

Someone has suggested it could be a problem with the brake discs.

My last car was an X plated Nissan Primera 1.8 Hatchback and this only had 110BHP, my Avensis has 127BHP on tap yet feels very sluggish in comparison.
