The only brake light that works when I have lights on is the one in the roof...

During the day, with lights off, all is well and all three lights work...

But at night, f*ck all hapens.

And one of the tail lights seems unusually bright.

Souds like one of your bulbs are fitted the wrong way round.

(the bright one)

Take the bulb out and check its located correctly in the holder,

it could be causing the lights not to work properly too.

sounds like a bad earth matey on the rear clusters.find an earth wire in the loom and run it to the body of the car with a wire extension.and fix it somewhere in the rear , but not on paintwork

Same thing happens when you fit a stop and tail bulb the wrong way round

Yep, 'twas the bulb!

Dunce hat for me.

Good thing I had a mate following who pointed it out to me or I probably wouldn't have noticed!
