Just had my vehicle serviced, 2nd one at £350, all seemed fine driving home. Today the front right parking / proximity sensor intermittently activates. This can happen whilst driving or when stationary. Checked for spiders web etc but all looks fine. Took it back to the main dealer and experienced 13 false alarms in 2 miles. Needless to say they couldn't reproduce the fault so they reset the sensors by basically turned them off and on again!

Failed another 3 times driving out the workshop. Now booked in for investigation but not until oct 20th as i wanted a loan car. No alarms at all driving home again. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hi David, maybe they've blasted the sensor with the jetwash after the service and it's temperamental.

Funny you should say that .. when at the workshop I suggested the same only to be told they don't use them. However, when leaving after they couldn't find a fault I saw someone washing a vehicle with a jetwash, which i highlighted to to the technician!

Is “blasted “ means damaged or just unfixed from its correct position? Just interested, Thanks 👍

Just had a look at the Dashcam footage which clearly shows my vehicle being attacked by a jetwasher! Why do people tell such porkies??!

Hi Tony, perhaps "blasted" was a bit excessive in terms 😀

What I mean is basically jetwashing a sensor will nacker it. It will force water into places it shouldn't go 🙂

Out with a tin of air and blow them clear, or if you have a wet/dry vac, hoover them

Well, was that the free car wash we are all getting with each service? Now we have the answer to the question raised in rav4 forum shall we let them wash our cars or not?! Not a problem for me though,  I have no sensors plus dealers doesn’t want to hear about my car anyway.

Yep, that was the free car wash, not a patch on the one from Volvo.

Will they fix it for you? Hopefully they will and apologise too. 👌

Nice...

I took the car with the dealer for a wheel alignment, just to find out later, thanks to the MyT app, that they did the service with a third party that charges half of what I paid them. Why do they think that no one is going to know about their deeds these days? Everything is recorded, unfortunately for young people, but that is today's reality.

Lol, that’s not exactly how they should do it. At least they could have told you and you could have had made your thoughts and take the car elsewhere yourself. I know dealers does use third party services for windscreen, cheap and body work replacement repairs, etc , but again it should be more clear what and where happens. Thanks for sharing. 👌👍

well they said it would be done free of charge under warranty, just wanted it confirmed in writing that there would be no charge for the diagnostics or the courtesy car.

update .. my front offside parking / proximity sensor seems to have repaired itself, no more false beep beeps. It has been this way for 10 days now. I still have the booking with the main dealer with a provided courtesy car .. would the false operation cause an error code, would anyone know? Is it me worth perusing this or just cancelling the visit? In two minds to be honest.

Also, I had my service done 2 weeks ago and the dealer took pictures of my faded door window rubbers and damaged pan roof rubbers, to be sent to head office to see whether they are covered by the warranty. I called them today and they still haven't heard anything, is this normal or are the dealers stringing me along?

Repaired itself or just dried out I am now wondering how it preforms in a heavy rain storm.

Yes, that's what I was wondering. Think I will keep the appointment.

update on update ..

took to the dealer today, they couldn't reproduce the fault but agreed to change the sensors under warranty.

I had an AYGO X as a courtesy car .. seemed strange using gears and a real handbrake again.

I drove 350 miles on Thursday in some pretty torrential rain.  I pulled up at a roundabout near the end of my journey and the front left sensor triggered for no reason for a few seconds and stopped.  It did it again a few minutes later and I also got the flashing message 'park assist unavailable, please clean sensor'.  The message could be deleted using the return button on the steering wheel but the message kept returning after several seconds ( I quickly got fed up cancelling the flashing messages).  I cleaned the sensors although there didn't appear to be anything on them except rain water.  The problem appears to have stopped but I'll need to keep an eye on it.  Like others on the forum the car only gets hand washed by me but not sure what the garage do when they give it a wash!

When its all dried out have a look at the wiring and sensor connection if you cannot see a problem with the seal apply some silicone sealant.

At the end of the day you may have to change the sensor itself.
