Man alive, help !! I have been changing the oil in my Avensis cars every 6,000 miles. Due to an a injury i took my one car in for a Toyota dealer to service. They tell me that Toyota advise for oil change every 4,000 miles. Maximum 5,000 miles.

BUT, when i purchased both cars i was advised to change oil at 12,000 miles.

Is this a case of dealers not knowing what they speak of or just looking for for a quick quick buck

5k I guess be better 2 times a year to change oil

I would check what the Service Book says...

Since at least 2006, Toyota service intervals have been 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first. For fleet users of the Avensis, think the mileage interval was extended to 12,000, but the time interval remained at 12 months.

I wouldn't go by what you were originally told if it was a salesperson.

The owners manual or service & warranty book will give the correct service intervals anyway.
