Just had my Canbus plates fitted to my 2019 RAV4. No drama, the car was ready within 3 hours and the Toyota dealer was very good. Has anyone who has had the plates fitted had a sticker or something fitted to the windscreen to say plates fitted?

I continue to use big yellow Stoplock at all times and recommend that everyone else does even if they have a new style key fob. All the latest Range Rovers and BMW’s plus Mercs parked around this part of East London have the Stoplock on which is good to see but a sad indictment of this area.

Yes, had my plates fitted in October last year, alway use my Stoplock overnight on the driveway and have two stickers (one at each of the top corners on the front windscreen).

Mine is a 2021 Dynamic and has the “smart key” that goes to sleep when no movement is detected, this stops the signal relay attacks but not the CanBus attack.

Bought the smaller size and stuck one on each side front window.

Will car thieves be able to see / read the stickers in the dark?

And have they heard of the CAB bus!

And they may also think that you’ve just stuck the stickers on without having the plates fitted, hence still using the stoplock.

Well, some of them are related to,or know someone who can read, so could be accompanied.

But the low lifes have been operating under the cover of darkness for so many generations now, that the latest two gens of thieving  scumbags"X" and "Z" have actually evolved and developed night vision.

I read somewhere that the UK and US military are looking into this as a way of saving on the cost of NVGs, ie night vision goggles.

I am assuming that they would be deployed on the battlefield in darkness, and if they see anything a bit scary they would start jumping up and down and screeching, thus alerting the regular troops.

Had the protection plates fitted by the dealer when I picked up the car last week. They said they were fitting them to ALL RAV4 whether HEV or PHEV, as a precaution.

Every time I see the thread has new message, I excitedly click in hoping to read the scumbags who try this have been KIA...I guess theres still time for that to happen 🤣

Explosive charge just behind the wheel arch liner would have the desired effect but unfortunately damage your pride and joy.😂😂😂😂

My local dealer has now said they can fit the plates but will need my car all day as the front bumper needs to come off, does anyone know if this is true as I'm not overly keen on the bumper being taken off, the last time I had a bumper off VW completely ruined my headlight washers!

I thought it was about an hour or so not all day.

I opted for a ‘ sit and wait’ appointment and went for a local walk. They rang me after 1 hour 15 mins to say it was ready to collect.  Their first one took them 2 hours according to service reception.

Had my PHEV done, both sides (took 1 hour) and no bumper removal. They get fitting instructions so maybe ask them to check or try a different dealer.

That's the standard reply you get when you ask some dealers directly.  Many in the thread, me included, went via Toyota Customer Relations in the first instance, who sorted everything out directly with the dealer for us.  I just gave them my preferred dealer details and they did the rest.

I went through Customs relations, they put me in contact with this dealer, I didn't contact the dealer directly.

So just because the main theft areas are London etc, Do they really think that other owners don't go there? I actually said this to my dealer at the time and they got the plates and fitted them within 2 weeks

I had the opposite too 🤷‍♂️
CR said not needed for my model so they didn't notify dealer, but the dealer said no problem, they'll do it before I pick up the car.

I got the run around by the service department too. They said it was only a problem with the RAV PHEV and not the HEV version! Told them they were wrong and they immediately agreed to fit them. Still think the fact they can only charge £50 for fitting is the reason for trying to put owners off.

Kia/Hyundai owners in the US who had their cars stolen will be eligible for payments according to USAtoday.

https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/kia-hyundai-owners-settlement-lawsuit-thefts/

The only reason the law suit happened was because there was a Kia Challenge trend on TikTok..

I had my car stolen for the second time, this time I had a steering wheel lock which was removed by cutting through the steering wheel to remove it. Police said the only way to protect the car was to have a ghost immobiliser fitted... Dealers are quoting 4,000 pounds worth of damage to the insurers.

Would be nice to receive the equivalent 3,000 pounds per incident that Kia/Hyundai owners receive.

Hi,
May I ask a couple of questions...
How long ago was your car stolen? I presume this was a CAN theft? Which steering wheel lock did you have?

I have just had the plates fitted, took less than 3 hours.

At first the Service Dept knew nothing of it, but when I told them it was Part No GBNGA BRACK01 and Campaign Bulletin WB 853, they looked it up and were most helpful.

Total Charge £70.
