What more do people expect them to do?

I would expect them to produce a car that their own insurance company will insure without insisting on a 3rd party immobiliser being installed before they will.

I had the plates fitted in October last year and also use a Stoplock Pro Elite and will hopefully get the software update when it’s released but will sell the car before being forced down the immobiliser route.

Yeah, but I want mine NOW! ... 😄

I added a comment to the magazine article yesterday, asking for an update on timescales since they are now a month behind where they suggested they might be. It is currently:

"awaiting moderation" ... I believe that I enquired in a very moderate fashion ... 😉

I'll feed back any information that I get in due course.

And the response is:

There is no information available on the security enhancement just yet.
We will provide an update the moment we can communicate more.

I can confirm a 25% increase in the cost of insurance along with a deterioration of the quality of benefits on Toyota Insurance in the event of a claim...

I have owned a Toyota Starlet, Carina, RAV4 from 1999, RAV4 from 2002 and now a hybrid from 2018. Loyal customer whose loyalty is being tested to the limit...

I got sick of waiting for a fix and have sold my Rav4, interestingly I got a car that was worth double the current cost of the RAV and was given a refund by my insurance company.

I have a 2023 Rav4 Dynamic PHEV. I have been a happy Toyota customer for many years. But this is my first Rav4.

Very disappointing to learn that the Rav4 is so easy to steal. I have bought a mechanical steering lock. Hopefully the theives will steal the one without a steering lock and leave mine alone.

You have a "2023 Rav4 Dynamic PHEV" - if you'd read the thread you would know that it is NOT nickable this way ... 😉

I have. Thanks for confirming what I thought.

25% increase is pretty good. Mines gone from £760 to £1,250...64% increase. At £760 last year that was the most I've ever paid for insurance...

Even worst for me. Paid £400 last year, now the quotes are coming at around a £1000. Not only that, some refuse to insure (like LV=) with error message 'we don't insure this type of car'. And I only have an old Auris hybrid. I have read somewhere online that some insurers might put a blanket ban on all Lexus just because some of them are easy to steal. Not sure why my Toyota is affected, though. Catalytic converters' theft?

We had a 63 auris and were paying 700 in kt3(renewed in February) -  currently paying 1300 for the 2020Rav4,

I have been with Lv for a few years now but at my renewal in April they said that they are now not offering cover for my RAV4 because a lot were being stolen and as I live in London also I suspect that pushes the risk over the edge. I have full ncd and before covid was paying around £450, last year I paid £750. I have now insured with AXA Plus for £1200. To be fair confused.com did show a company called “go skippy” with a premium similar to last years premium with lv but I wanted to go with a company that’s rated fairly well with which as its still a lot of money to spend with a company that I know very little about.

I renewed mine via comparison sites for £1,400 in November.

I just refreshed my details out of interest and if I renewed now it would be £1,000 !

Maybe the protective plates are working and the algorithm is more favourable ?

The quote I had in KT3 (New Malden) for my 2023 RAV4 PHEV was initially £2500 from £800.  I shopped around and ended up with £1500.

I was disgusted and sold it (not just for that reason but it was a big part of it).  Back in a BMW petrol 6 cylinder costing £860 ish insurance.

The market is mad.  I would quite like to look at the new C-HR as a job change is on the cards doing a lot of miles ... but worry re insurance on that after my RAV4 experience !

Yup, that's what we are paying with Aviva, close to Poplar grove, there are still quite a few RAV4 in the area, some with steering locks, but most without...

Saw this article yesterday & it mentions high theft rates for RAV4 in London in 2023.

There was a time when nobody took any notice of Toyotas...

I haven't felt the need to bother. But I noticed a sticker on the window of my RAV4 that says it has a double locking system. Is that something worth doing on a 2023 PHEV? I'm guessing the answer is yes.

It's a double press on the door handle or remote fob - it means that you can't unlock the door by breaking a window and unlocking it from the inside. Most, if not all, cars have it now and yes, it's worth doing.

I’m in Howard Rd.   I even had a wheel clamp on my Rav4 along with a Stoplock Pro !!   I also tried a Meta Deadlock immobiliser but the hybrid system charging didn’t like the immobiliser one bit.

The wheel clamp now sits min my garage as unecessary with my BMW which, as a coupe, is not appealing to thieves I am told.   The BMW forum for owners doesn’t even mention theft!

i never thought when I originally changed from a BMW X3 to the Rav4 PHEV that I would have to worry more re theft.    Crazy world we live in.

I'm guessing the insurance increases are linked to postcodes.

I just ran a check on my insurance (I renewed it on annual premium in October) but done it again there and it was the same price.

I'm just along the road from you in Glasgow and my insurance has gone up from £720 to £1285. RAV4 PHEV MY22.
