Can see the vid no problem. You may need to download a video player app, missing codec from current one perhaps.

It's encoded in H265, which isn't as commonly supported as H264.

I've re-encoded it in H264 if that's any help:

Disgusting brazen

I made a duplicate key in the workshop https://ikey.by/izgotovlenie-chip-klyuchey/toyota-izgotovlenie-chip-klyuchey/klyuch-toyota-rav-4-2022-sdelat-dublikat-smart-klyucha-zazhiganiya/. A month later, my car was stolen. The police found the car. The key maker from this site made another key, with which he stole the Rav4. there are many ways

That is really sad to hear. Locksmiths etc., are by profession people you’d inherently trust.

There's always a locksmith in a gang of burglars I guess.

Am I correct in understanding that Toyota is offering a (free?) Tracker in order to help recover stolen RAV4s ?

If so, does anybody have any detail of what they are offering, and does the tracker help reduce insurance premium costs ?

It will be the Thatcham cat 7 Tracker Retrieve Battery powered ONE use only device.

One use only as it can't be removed from the car or if the car is stolen we need to buy a new one?

I guess they won't be coming out with their Toyota designed bespoke security add-on?

Pardon me for my naivety, but is this a good or bad thing and do insurance companies rate them highly ?

Hmmmm... I have no real interest in fitting a device that will allow me to recover the vehicle after it has been stolen along with all the associated damage and insurance increases. I would prefer that they just negated the CAN attack with either a software or hardware update to use signed CAN traffic, as per the 2023> HEVs and all PHEVs.

Once the car has been stolen, if I have to claim on the insurance to repair it anyway then I don't want it back.

Do you have a source for that information? I have not heard anything about that, and neither has my dealer.

+1 for that ... I've seen social media speculation but nothing at all to that effect from Toyota.

It's Thatcham approved which means it meets the criteria to be recognised by insurance companies.

But it doesn't mean insurance companies have to give any discount OR even offer you cover.

I understood from the communication Totoya issued in Spring that they were looking to introduce anti-theft protection, if they had done this then there would be no need for a tracker - I assume that they could not get the anti-theft protection to work at economic cost and hence we are where we are.

My car is now over three years old and I expect that as it ages it will become less attractive to car thiefs, so unless insurance becomes ludicrously expensive then I won't bother.

If it gets stolen I don't want it back.

Check the last few days of post on the Toyota statement on vehicle theft.

Toyota staff mention FOC tracker fitment more then once so I would contact them first.

I’ve seen a few on facebook groups that have supposedly had them fitted. It consists of a geofence device plugged into the OBD port that alerts you to the fact the car has gone, then you call the tracker company and they can track where it is. Correct that it is single use and it’s free for 3 years but subscription thereafter (I think I read c£150 per year).

On another note, I also saw on one of those groups recent attempted theft. Unsuccessful, but instead of removing the wheel arch liner, they actually cut a panel out of the bumper, just in front of the wheel arch.

So it does! No change to the text in the body of the article but a number of 'hints' in the comments over that past month.

Have you checked your cars for recalls recently? Mine shows a recall now and it didn't have anything a couple of months ago... Not sure what it is though... I'll need to call the dealership and ask tomorrow AM.

Looking at the comments on that site there's a couple of things to note. UK dealers are rinsing their customers by attempting to charge for the work and/or Toyota don't seem to much control over their dealer network.

Compared to other marques, e.g. BMW this IME never happened for a Campaign / Recall. They'd send you a letter asking you to contact your dealer to have to work carried out at no charge.

Maybe Toyota need to shift to an agency model and deal directly with their customers.

Well, the posts from "Toyota UK" do state quite clearly that the device is available and can be fitted FoC. It would appear that you may have to get this organised through cr@toyota.co.uk to ensure that the dealer knows it is not be charged but that is no different to the plates when they were first available.

So, do I bother chasing this and getting one? Not sure. If it's free and is fitted invisibly then there is nothing to lose but it doesn't solve the problem. All this does is mitigate the consequences and, IMHO, that's not enough. It's a fudge, not a fix. No doubt the Toyota bean counters have decided that this is "affordable" whereas a retrofit of newer technology from the 2023> cars is not.

Maybe time for a chat with my friendly service manager.

This will not be done as a recall as that is only for safety related items. This will be a campaign and will not show up in the recall checker.

That said: I checked anyway and got this:

"Recall Checker
Error
Sorry, there is an issue with the data we have available on this vehicle. Please contact your local dealer who will be able to assist further."

Looks like I'll be talking to the dealer anyway.

If only someone at Toyota UK had negotiated a bulk order of a suitable S5 tracker with no tag = no start 🤔

Instead you get two devices that still don't stop the vehicle being stolen but tells you so you can call the Police & hope they can retrieve it.

Just had my RAV4 hybrid stolen from an underground supermarket car park in East London.

I informed the police and insurance company that I didn’t have a tracker but eventually realised my Toyota app was still functional. I informed them of my last known location but as it wasn’t a live tracker they didn't check it out.
However, on reporting my third location around 4a.m. the police did return my call with the news ‘it had been found with minimal external damage but panels had been ripped out possibly looking for a tracker.’ A steering wheel lock had also been in place, I guess to stop the thieves from being victims of a theft. Looking up the vehicle location was interesting as the adjacent garage in Ilford it was parked by had good reviews about its resourcefulness for acquiring parts and being cheap. Final irony, Toyota app also provided a critique of the thieves driving style- hard braking and too fast accelerating after leaving reduced speed limits. One week later still awaiting insurance company to recover car from police car pound.

Interesting that thieves use steering wheel locks - reinforces what has been said before about their use as a good deterrent.
