Steering wheel locks proven time & again as a waste of time as professional thieves can remove them quickly.

Protection plates on both RAV4 & Lexus RX have now been defeated with vehicles stolen.

The built in vehicle location service via the smart phone app is also extremally easy to defeat.

A professionally fitted Thatcham / TASSA immobiliser OR better still an alarm & immobiliser is the best solution to stop the vehicle being driven away.

A monitored Thatcham approved tracking device is also worth investing in.

That's worrying. Supposedly canbus attack immune versions like my 2023 PHEV, are they getting stolen too? I always double lock the car if that makes any difference.

If mine were stolen, I'm not entirely sure I would want it back.

I agree. The vehicles are getting older and I suspect the near zero return on expenditure to Toyota from fitting enhanced security to older vehicles does not justify it.

Well, maybe, but they haven't changed the text to suggest that they won't - they still state that they will provide a security enhancement. Vehicles as recent as 2022 are affected. Such vehicles will have a 10-year warranty so Toyota should be expecting them to be around until 2032. That's another 8 years of exposure ...

So, if Toyota can provide a resolution they really should do so. If, for whatever reason, they can't - and I could accept that there is no economically viable solution - then they should admit to that and safe folk from hanging on in vain hope of a solution.

As now offered and fitted by Toyota, F. O. C. ? It helps I am sure but far from a perfect solution.

The Toyota offered tracker while Thatcham S7 approved isn't a monitored device - you have to inform them that the vehicle has been stolen.

Toyota / Lexus already have a solution with the enhanced security system secondary immobiliser that is used in European market BUT it doesn't meet UK Thatcham requirements.

That depends on the particular lock. While it is true that any lock can be defeated, eventually, it will take time, tools and make a lot of noise, none of which the thief wants.

The two that are consistently recommended are the Milenco and the StopLock Pro.

They will just cut the steering wheel, takes them a few seconds. If a disklock, they fill it with expanding foam and cut/snap the arm off.
If they want it they will take it.

Yes, but depending on the type of wheel lock used it will require more cuts in more inaccessible places. e.g. for the StopLock Pro, if fitted correctly, it will require at least three cuts so more time, more noise and more damage.

Yes, anything can be stolen and if they want it they will take it but that's not the point. The point is that if we are running away from a bear I don't have to out run the bear. I only have to out run you.

If you can provide a visual deterrent and get the scrote to move on to a different vehicle then it's a win.

This is how I I put my StopLock Pro on, by straddling the arm it makes things a little more difficult to cut the wheel and remove it.
