If mine were stolen, I would think seriously about waiting a few hours before reporting it stolen. Making much less likely to be recovered.

Which would, of course, invalidate your insurance ... 😉

Well if you were away or having an extra couple of hours in bed then that could amount to a few hours before you discovered that your Rav was gone. Personally I would rather get my car back though and have it properly repaired.Better the devil you know etc.

I'd want my stuff returned pronto. I think

1. The thieves will contine to think its ok to take stuff,

2. It'll fund their "research and development" into finding better ways to take stuff,

3. The main reason I turn up to work is to earn some money to buy nice things, not for it to be ultimately stolen

Having it returned and keeping it is different question.

What car manufacturer needs is to employ a former car thieves to help to design out these security issues.

Nissan did that from the early 90's, and other manufacturers probably do as well.

Aside from that there is the insurance industry funded Thatcham Research organisation.

I keep a cricket bat by the front door as well!

Baseball bat and a panic button which sets the house alarm off. When I'm away this is for the family. When I'm at home the panic button is for desperate robbers which at this point will wish they were in custody. 6ft3, over 200lbs, Jiu Jitsu black belt (over 15 years), former amateur boxer (7 years). But now an ailing 50s old man with countless health issues 😂 So I'll probably just shout at them until they .... Off. 🤣

Know how you feel. A retired superintendent friend was robbed and he told me that he was very upset not that the things were taken, but the fact he could not defend and prevent the thieves from taking his property.

I think that's the thing. Helpless. Things folks have worked really hard for. I think it's a judgement call whether to defend your property. If there's a gang armed with crowbars, machetes and more just let them take it and stay out of the way.
