Can I use this tyre fitment for a 2011 Avensis Tourer?

Evening all - We recently acquired an immaculate, lovely low mileage (42K) late 2011 Avensis Tourer (1.8 Valvematic). Loving the car so far - it has a brilliant service history and has obviously been very well cared for in the past.

My query concerns a set of new tyres; the OEM fitment is 215/55/17 but I would like to fit 225/50/17 all-season tyres as there is a greater range of tyres at lower prices.

I realise the rolling radius is very slightly lower in this profile but wanted to ask if the extra 10mm tyre width would be a problem on the stock rims? I have carried out a search of the forum but couldn't find any definitive info.

Many thanks in anticipation, Andy

There are tyre/wheel size calculators on the internet - https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/

Check with your insurance, because this could be considered a modification! Obviously the slightly smaller radius will cause the speedo to over read, so will be travelling at a much lower speed the indicated.

Personally I would stick with the original size.

Thanks for your reply Konrad. The difference in rolling radius is only 1.3% so I'm not too worried about speedo showing 61mph when travelling at 60mph. Noted about insurance though - good point. I guess, what I'm asking is whether the OEM 17 inch rims are 7 inches width?

Hi, you can check on that website that had been given. Also you can use this tyre size calculator to see more information about sizes and fitment.

As Konrad said keep oem size is the best . You can however change the whole set wheels and tyres to more suitable either 16” or 18” depending what are you after , but this should be in accordance with manufacturer recommended sizes. You can see them at https://www.wheel-size.com
