Having just picked up my new 2022 Corolla GR Sport, I am surprised to find that the doors do not lock automatically when I go above 20 mph.  Is it possible to activate this?  I have tried consulting the manual but cannot find anything in there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and congratulations on the new car👍 I believe this option it’s not available on any Corolla in uk .

Don't think it comes with it. I was also quite surprised when I first look into getting a 2016 Yaris hybrid that it does not have it. There was a OBD device made for it which works. Don't know if that device will work with a new corolla.

Toyota doesn't fit this function to its products even though loads of people would like it - get in to the habit of pressing the door lock button on the driver's door control.

I have got into this habit for a few years now.

Even though I am in older cars with no auto lock anyway.

The prompt for this was outside a bank just down the road from here, now shut like so many branches, I had drawn out some money and was sat in the car checking paperwork etc.

The passenger door opened and some herbert got in and sat in the passenger seat.

I thought ooh er I'm gonna get robbed here, but no, the complete cretin had somehow mistaken a bright red Lexus for his equally cretinous associate's green Renault crudmobile.

Anyhow,he did not even apologize, just got out cackling in that very strange way that morons do when embarrassed or surprised, ie. permanently, and toddled off to join his pal in the Renault complete with cannabis grinder and oversize rizla paper bedecked dashboard .

They used to say you meet the nicest people on a Honda 50, well you meet some pretty strange ones in an old Lexus is.

Other MFG fit it but not Toyota.

My old Avensis did it (both 2007 and 2011 models) - so I’d love to know why Toyota don’t activate this feature on new vehicles.  Must be some sort of legislative or type approval requirement that they are keeping tight lipped about.

I bought this from Aliexpress. Just plug and play. Doors lock and unlock. When in P it unlocks all doors. In D it locks all doors. Works a treat.

Thanks for the link. Just ordered one. There are some areas round here where I want the doors locked - and having had the facility on the last 5 cars I have owned I really miss it.

The aforementioned "dongle" arrived today. Plugged it in and it's working perfectly. There is a switchable option to have the hazards blinking when you are reversing - and if you open a door with the car in "Ready" mode. Needless to say this got switched off within the first few minutes. Pop it into D and the doors lock - and unlock when you select P. Just what I wanted. Thanks to Taz for the link. Feeling a lot safer now.

I’ve just ordered the above item. Does it need to remain plugged in the OBD port for the auto lock to work?

Thanks, the part has arrived and works as expected. Just curious if the hazards whilst reversing can be switched off?

The instructions are on the Aliexpress page:

Functions:
1. Lock 4 doors automatically when you pull gear D or speed is over 15 yards.
2. Unlock 4 doors automatically when you pull gear P or stall the car.
3. If you open the door halfway, it will lock 4 doors again when the speed is over 15 yards.
4. Rear lights flash when open the door. It means the warning light button is turned on automatically.
5. Rear lights flash when reverse the car.
6. When you brake suddenly with the speed over 60 KM/H, it will automatically unlock 4 doors and turn on the warning lights.
Settings:
1. Lights flash on O. Lights flash off
2. Lock on N. Lock off
3. Lock when gear D K. Lock when speed is over 15 km/h
4. Unlock when gear P E. Unlock when stall

So you needed to set the first switch to the other position.

more thanks to TazUddin for the heads up, fitted and working a treat. Boy, those micro switches really are micro, I needed glasses and a magnifying glass to change switch 1!🪕

Has anyone noticed any negative effects on the car?

It seems like a neat solution for a feature that is present on the car, but hasn't been programmed: The car automatically close the doors and turn on the alarm after a few seconds, if you do not open a door after pressing the key button...

The auto re-locking that you mention is a standard feature in the UK. Regarding the auto-locking plug-in unit, I have seen no other effects on the car at all.

Just got this myself and it’s brilliant!

Cannot believe such a basic feature is not available as standard. This is available on other models such as RAV4.

Did you not check the spec before ordering?

Yanky land highly likely - but there automotive safety standards are different to the rest of the civilized world.

Does it drain the Battery this obd plug? Have you checked with volt meter? Just curious, thanks.

Yes to be fair it’s not there. However I would’ve thought such a basic feature should be included but learnt lesson to never assume!

My car comes with kick opening for boot though 😄
