Toyota doesn't recommend any brand of oil - basically it is personal choice.

They just specify the grade (ie. 5W-30) and API specification (ie currently API SL, SM, SN, etc).

Use the grade recomended in your handbook put pay attention to the letters after the numbers.

The brand is your choice.

Motul is the official oil supplier to Suzuki - marine, car, and motorbike engines - so is a reputable oil manufacturer.

My genuine Toyota oil I'm not even sure who makes it as tbh I just wanted quality oil so I got it .but I always wondered why the head gasket went on my last car as well looked after it has 2 be that motorfactor  cheap gemoil junk .I really don't know plus that Castrol magnetic oil don't sound good you don't want oil sticking to your engine bound to do alot of damage clogging up ports etc when gets old

I stand to be corrected, but, Castrol Magnatec, is not magnetic. It is also a long established engine oil.

I don´t know about oil brands... but I do know that bad oil is causing vvti actuator malfunction (among the other things). The actuator wears out and does not work properly. My friend has a Corolla (2004) with 1,6 vvti engine and it had only 197 tkm on the clock when vvti fault code came.

It would have been expensive job at Mr T with the new actuator etc. This time we managed to fix it ourselves by machining the damaged parts inside the actuator.

And it was local Mr T who told me about the bad oil...

Here is the link to actuator picture:

The oil has to be by the spec written in the car manual. The brand as noted depending of your personal preferences and budget. Most expensive not necessarily is the and cheaper ones not necessarily are the worst. Wrong type of oil and infrequent oil changes are the things that cause issues.
Brands like Castrol, Motul, Mobil1, Total, Eneos, Shell, Petronas are well known aftermarket products but also as oem suppliers. Very important when you buy oils to make sure you are buying them from reputable sellers because there are many fake products and sometimes they are so well made it is difficult to extinguish between them. I had been using Total and Shell Helix in Japanese car with great success. Currently using Petronas and so far so good now over 6 years and many miles.

Why and how oil can cause a head gasket issue it’s a bit strange to me. Most common way head gasket goes bad is failure within the cooling system or too much boost. Oil does help engine been cooled off but it’s not the major liquid to do that , it’s the coolant’s job. If the oil been bad and burned out and engine been left without oil than it’s another matter. I am not saying that cheap or unknown brands are good but not all are actually bad. There are many variables to be taken into account when we talk about oils buts yes the better oil you have the safer is for your engine. 👍

well im kinda with you alos but i was chatting with my buddy and he has a newish ford transet van with 130k on clock and his head gasket went on it .plus my 1.9tdi head gasket went on it also at about 125k then my mechanic was telling me about a new ford he was doing a service on the customer bought that gemoil same as the i got and my friend who has the transit got well my buddy the mechanic said that the oil light came on and didnt know why as oil was just put in. well he rang his buddy up who is a mechanic and they were chatting he said to him what oil u put in it and he sayed was gemoil the other mechanic said put in genuine oil in it as he did and the oil light went off /he didnt know why with those other brand why the oil light stayed on. another thing i was kinda putting it down to maybe that i ran that liquid molly diesel purge threw my 1.9tdi car every year thinking was doing a good thing and well that might have done it . but  another thing i did on it was change the coolant on my car as it was over 5 years and thought i was doing a good thing also maybe was not the right colant the stuff i put in was green . tbh god knows what the problem was but this toyota i have now im just going to stick wih genuine service kits for it
