Cannot see from the photo how bad the mirror is damaged, but if it is still in one piece and the base has not be broken you may be able to refit .

If not type online make model of car and you should get an idea of price for complete replacement.  If you have some DIY skill you can refit a new one. Regarding cost of garage etc give a few a ring and get some competitive quotes.

You may also be able to find someone online selling one at a low price  social media sites etc.

Hope this helps and sorry this as happened.

A closer look at it.The support is broken. I wonder how much force it would take to do this?

Looks like you will have to buy a complete wing mirror by the state of the support bracket.

Unfortunately it doesn't take a lot to yank these off . Shop around it may take a bit of time but you should get one a a fair price.

Thank you all for the advice. This is the second vehicle in my road to have been damaged in this way in a few days. This sort of mindless vandalism is so annoying and expensive.

This clearly shows signs of vandalism indeed. Someone either wanted the mirror as a spare part or wanted to purposely cause damage to the car. You may need to install a camera or something to record the crime in case happens again. For replacement best to buy original mirror only as the aftermarket cheap ones usually does not work well plus the glass is horrible.

Don't throw the damaged mirror away.  You can try on eBay as someone may need bits that are not damaged.

I had an oil filled mirror that was deteriorating.  Got a second hand replacement in good condition.  Sold my original back on eBay

Its horrible, sorry to hear about it. Hope u get it sorted soon. Try to find a used one on eBay or scrap yard, otherwise it's cost a bit as mentioned.

I had this happen to a Corsa a few years ago I started to manually fold my mirrors in after it was repaired thinking the drunk numb nuts who would do such a thing may just walk past and choose a different car, it's never happens again but that may be just a coincidence

I always do fold the wing mirrors in as I was once told that to a thief a car left with extended mirrors means that the security system has not been enabled.

That's just reminded me of a question I was meaning to ask on here.

On my old 2003 tsport, I have tried to fold the door mirrors manually, but they don't seem to move.

Not tried to force them,as I don't want to cause damage, are they supposed to move?

As for the numbnuts who caused the damage to the op's car,may they be infested with a thousand fleas of a very bitey variety, and never find a cure.

Now that is just being vindictive and nasty - 20 years will do for them. 😀

If they're anything like the ones on my Mk1 D4D, they do move but they need a surprisingly large amount of force, esp if they've never been moved before.

I didn't even know mine could move for several years (I agree - They really don't feel like they can!!) until some oncoming moron got too close and clipped the driver-side one, causing it to snap back! I thought it had been damaged but luckily just a scrape on the cover (A new one to join the many! ).

The reason it's so difficult to turn is the whole thing is sprung-loaded down into a sort of locating divot or something, and when you're trying to turn it in, you're also fighting against that spring force - As you twist it, it rises up a few mm as it cams out of the divot, and once you're out it's easier to turn. You kinda have to use both hands to twist it around the pivot point, as the relatively thin mount its on may flex quite alarmingly.

It does loosen up after a while tho and eventually I could just do it with one hand, but at first all the extra friction from dirt and stuff between the mirror and the mount, plus the spring pressing it against the divot, made it very hard to turn!

No danny, I have modified my views in recent years to a more liberal attitude.

Ten years ago I thought the answer to car thieves and vandals was to display their heads on London bridge, with labels describing their crime.

Nowadays, I think more understanding is needed of their impoverished lives, and help offered in the form of breaking rocks during the day , and maybe oakum picking in the evenings for the 20 years that you suggest as a suitable sentence.

While infested with the aforementioned fleas,of course.

Compassion for our more unfortunate members of society is of course a measure of an advanced and civilised democracy.😉

Yes Cyker, thank you, they certainly feel as though they don't move and never have.

Unlike the folding mirrors on my old Lexus is that folded on the switch, and the mirrors on my pal's pug van that folded manually as fast as a car thief giving up his associates in a police interview.

It's not often that I need them to fold given that it's such a small car, but when there are no disabled spaces, and other cars park within an inch or two of my driver's door, it sure would be handy.

I will give them a jiggle, bearing in mind that this is nearly 20 year old plastic, so carefully.

Below the mirror housing you'll see a small gap. Spray a small amount of wd40 into this and then gently rock the mirror back.  It will move, but will take a bit of time. Once its moved, lube that section and work the lube into the plate by moving the mirror back and forth. It'll be a lot better, although best will be to dismantle and lube up properly - which i also need to do!

Agreed, exactly what I was about to recommend. Wd-40 silicone one I have used on mine just to make everything work smoother. 👍
