Hi folks,

I was hoping someone can help me here. I got a MY 22 Corolla 2.0 GR Sport in June about 6 weeks later on Saturday 30th July the car started to pop up with a notification to say it was unable to sync with connected services providing me with two options cancel or continue.

If I press cancel the notification will pop up every 15 minutes until I press continue. Upon pressing continue the Smart Connect system launches a web browser taking you to a Toyota Web Portal my username (email address) is already populated and it wants to validate a password. I enter the MyT password and the car then takes me to a splash screen of what looks like it's asking you to allow a connection or a series of API's.

Upon clicking allow the nav reverts back to normal without any issues until it does it next time which maybe in a few days or a few weeks. I get the impression it has some form of token timeout has anyone ever heard of this.

Also if I ever use the search in the Toyota nav it just has a spinning loading menu and does nothing.

Thoughts would be gladly appreciated. I've finally got round to speaking to the MyT support team today and they've just said take it the dealer.

Toyota tell me there is a known issue and hope it will be fixed on an update.

In my case I sometimes persevere with the log in but now just stay as Guest.

@Roy124 thank you for this I’m glad it’s not just me experiencing this. It’s insanely annoying.

Oh yes it is!!!!! From memory if you still get the connected services if you log on as guest, you just loose your favorites so you have to enter them in on the guest profile.

Although to be fair as it is so unreliable, I generally use Apple Car Play and use the mapping on there. If you use Apple Maps, you still get the direction signs pop up on the dashboard like you would on the factory nav.

Do you really? The only reason I like the Toyota nav is for the directions on the heads up display.

Quick question:

Are these connected services available free of charge for the first 3 years and then we have to pay ? If yes, how much does it cost per month and who we need to pay to, Toyota uk or mobile operator?

Thanks

As far as I know it is free for the first four years but I have no idea of the cost after that.

Remember the SOS e call part of the connected system is always free for the entire life of the vehicle due to EU rules.

The live traffic / mapping etc stuff is up to the owner if they wish to renew that after the 4 years free trial ends.

When I had a similar system on my previous connected Peugeot, occasionally during the year PSA would have decent deals on either 1 year or 3 year subscription renewals.

I'm sure before the first Smart Connect vehicle subscriptions become due, Toyota UK will come up with some affordable renewal deals for owners who wish to continue the live services.

I've not got the HUD so can't comment on if the directions appear there, but it does on the dash if you use Apple Maps.

Forethought on the Information system, I wouldn't hold my breath, especially if the system has been superseded by then.

I very much doubt that for a very long time as Smart Connect has even fully rolled out across the Toyota / Lexus product line ups yet to replace the previous infotainment systems used 🤣

Fair enough for Smart Connect as a whole, but the Corolla system in an 8" screen is limited to my knowledge to the my22 Corolla and my22 C-HR

I think the Yaris Cross gets Smart Connect as does the new Aygo. It will slowly get more common in the future.

I agree these have Smart Connect, but with a bigger screen and no physical volume knob, so more than likely different hardware so updates would have to be specific.

Having seen an image of the larger display for MY23 I suspect that the head unit software may well be the same as MY22 with the larger screen and different volume controls. Just like fitting a larger display to a desktop PC really.

@Kental Thank you for the tip earlier in the month on using Apple Maps. It worked with the drivers display on the dash and also sync'd with the heads up display. 🙂
