TMC

I found this setting earlier and having googled it would seem it may be of help with my well documented failure to get my phone to work with my unit for live traffic updates, has anyone tried it and is it any good?

Thread Title - TMC.

This isn't my unit but the menu is similar.

RDS TMC problem on 2015 facelift auris - Auris Club - Toyota ...

Traffic Message Channel (TMC) is a technology for delivering traffic and travel information to motor vehicle drivers. It is digitally coded using the ALERT C or TPEG protocol into Radio Data System (RDS)[1] carried via conventional FM radio broadcasts. It can also be transmitted on Digital Audio Broadcasting or satellite radio.

TMC allows silent delivery of dynamic information suitable for reproduction or display in the user's language without interrupting audio broadcast services. Both public and commercial services are operational in many countries. When data is integrated directly into a navigation system, traffic information can be used in the system's route calculation.

Ah, ok. AFAIK, TMC will not work over DAB or DAB+ in the UK. It was meant to (historically) but no one would finance it so it was scrapped. In the UK it only works when you are listening to an FM station and Toyota's head units (Harman) will not simultaneously work to allow any kind of switching out of DAB (to relate the TMC message) to FM and back again. It works if you are listening to an FM station though. However, I can't remember the last time I used FM in the car, never mind listened to an FM station!

(I hasten to add that TMC is still used commercially by some companies e.g. Trafficmaster, TomTom etc. and the sensors can still be seen on UK motorways and main trunk roads. - I used to have a Trafficmaster unit myself)

We live in a quite hilly place so i often have to use FM but when i can i used DAB, it looks like i may be back to square one again  😆

For some reason I ONLY get Traffic alerts via FM - I never get them via DAB! Not sure if I'm doing something wrong as it's enable in both...

Does it only work if you're actually using DAB??

That was my point, it doesn't work over DAB. Only while listening to FM broadcasted stations.

To be honest the last time I got stuck on the motorway for a lengthy period was many years ago I rarely listen to FM so I will go back to enjoying the drive and not stress about something that is unlikely to ruin the day.

I think I'm talking about something else; TMC sounds like a data channel for traffic information.

What I was talking about is the thing where it will interrupt whatever you're listening to (e.g. music from USB stick) and switch to some random local radio station that's doing it's traffic news.

Traffic alert over FM frequencies I always receved them hear up North after I was stuck in traffic.

Once after a Bank robbery I was stuck in standing traffic for a long time on the M1 no broadcast at all over the radio only found out after ariving home via a lot of B roads from Leeds to North of Durham.

Could you explain you say you get them over FM  but then say "no broadcast at all over the radio only"

Yes Police blocked all transmision because event was live at the time of driving.

You dont want the villins to receve trafic updates on a live chase!.

I installed this today apparently you don't need to put a destination in it gives live updates for roads around you up to a distance you set in the settings it also alerts using bluetooth so you don't need to view the phone screen, i haven't tried it yet but will post a review when i have.
