Things that made my car better

My Yaris is the dynamic in black.

1) Im quite sure it was designed by the person that designed the spaceship in hitch hikers guide to the galaxy in that everything is black with a black background. So it took me a while, but I found the 'turn the interior light on when I open the door switch'.

2) Pull the light control to turn the lights on for 30s when you leave the car at night.

3) The dash is not fixed at the back left and right (could be because of the extra JBL Speakers?) It rattles terribly against the plastic airbag covers down the pillars. I removed the Speakers and jammed some foam in under the dash so it doesnt rattle anymore.

4) I have a very tight driveway and garage, and this car beeps warnings more than any other. I finally found the volume of the beep and turned it down. Much better.

not had any rattling in mine yet 🤞

I have the excel in white with light interior so it’s not like getting into a black hole

Haha, love the hitchhiker's reference - Disaster Area!

"...the interior of the ship was completely black. There were black controls labelled in black, on a black background, with a little light that lit up black, which made it difficult to control the ship. The ceiling and walls of the swaying cabin were also black, as well as the seats, control panel, the instruments and the little screws that held them in place. The thin tufted nylon floor covering was black, and when a corner of the foam underlay was lifted up that was also discovered to be was black."

My Mk4 has a very weird rattle - 99% of the time it's fine, but there's one road I drive along semi-regularly where the roughness of the road surface vibrates the car at the exact resonant frequency of whatever is rattling, making it rattle and buzz very loudly!

Vantablack.  You would then be the brightest thing in the car 😁

That stuff is really freaky, it's like looking at a glitch in reality or something

Also, slightly more on topic (Scandalous I know!), a tip - Do NOT wipe down the dash glass of the Mk4 with a dry microfibre cloth even if it feels soft - I was just wiping dust off and now both circular gauges are covered in very fine micro scratches :crybaby:

I didn't notice until recently when the low sun was reflecting off them - I thought it was glass but it's just some sort of soft clear plastic it seems!

I use one of there but don't put much pressure on when wiping the dash.

There are some shiny gloss plastics around the shifter. They scratch easily, but mguires scratch remover works very well.

I'm adding another discovery (not recommended)

5) I have now put my key through the washing machine twice. It's because I keep hooking it to a belt loop and forgetting. Still works, and is easy to take apart for drying out!

Toyota named mine Vincent at the factory and even put his name on a plate inside.

Mine rattles like mad, I need to spend the time to pop off the loose trim and pack it down. What tools did you use to get the Speakers off? I have the same spec, so JBL Speakers etc.

Those Speakers at the rear of the dash:

They pop off really easy with a plastic pry tool. There are no strong fixings.

Is it easy to get the A post trims off and do you need to disconnect the battery?

You wont need to take them off to stuff something under the dash. However, they are quite easy to take off, and I didnt disconnect the battery; dont know if thats the right thing to do.

To take the A post off off just pull. However, there is a clip that prevents it from coming away that you need to press a couple of clips on to detach. Once you pull it free, you can get your fingers in to detach the clip.

Thanks for that, might have to take a look as a couple of rattles are spoiling a great car!

Ensure that you remove yourself from those trousers before you put them in the washing machine, the drying out process is really complicated 😂🤣.
