Map update 2022 v2

I've now tried twice to download the new maps for my '21 PHEV and manage the 'o' purchase phase and get onto the download. I've now downloaded the zip file twice (13.7Gb file) and each time I try to expand the file it returns zero contents.

Any one had the issue and come up with a fix?

I have a 21 plate Rav and I've just downloaded the latest map automatically.  Tbh I didn't even know it was doing it, I was sat on the drive and just looking through the menus and saw it downloading.

I haven't paid for any extended cover or anything that I know of.

I always download at home and use a USB.

Just tired to download again using Chrome as the browser and got the same zero content result. Luckily my broadband is good, virgin media 560Mb, so it's not a big deal as it takes only a few minuets but I'd be pretty sore it was downloading on a slow connection.

I download last week the maps last week and had no issues 12.7GB, as far as the speed is concerned, you can only download at the speed the server will allow no matter how fast your connection,

Agreed, the Toyota server was only running at 30M/bs but having a bigger download pipe gets the maximum that the server will allow..

Glad your download was OK, I’ll try a Windows set up later.

Just downloaded using Windows Edge without any problems.

Unpacking to USB is a different matter; 3.5MB/s painfully slow 🙁(SSD to USB3 as well !!!)

Edward, just fired up the Windows laptop and downloaded also using Windows Edge. Unpacked and coping to a USB right now.

Really surprised that I was not able to complete the task using my Mac / Safari and even more so when I tried the same machine using Chrome. Luckily I still have a Windows based machine to run some old software that’s occasionally required. Good old Toyota giving the brain a run for it’s money!

Go to this site and login using your email address and password for the main Toyota site: https://www.toyota.co.uk/tme#/my-toyota/eStore

You should see the map updates in there, once you click on them you select to buy them (they are free if your car is under 3 years old) and this will be shown on screen once you have done this. At this point you should see the download and a set of instructions for installing the on the car, put the car in ready mode while you install them.

Ernie, just out of interest I tried on my Macbook, again using Edge; it downloaded fine, shows in downloads as being 13.67GB in size, but I get the same pop-up as you if I try to unpack it!!

I'm not up to speed on Mac OS, but it seems that's where the problem lies.

If, before selling your car you update the maps will the dealer do a factory reset before the next buyer gets it?

I'm unpacking mine on Windows right now - it's going fine, just slow copying to USB.

It shouldn't matter in the slightest which operating system or browser you use to download the zip file. It should be 12.7 GB (aka 13,668,420,961 bytes) on disk.

On Windows it unpacks to a blank USB just fine (today). From what you say there appears to be an issue with the unpack function on Mac OS. IIRC I have had problem in the past unpacking the file to disk so I now unpack directly to USB ...

Who knows what a particular dealer may do? Probably not much at all - certainly it makes no sense to reinstate an obsolete map.

The dealer should delete all the personal details of a previous owner before selling the car on - i.e. favourite addresses including home, phone numbers in contacts etc.. But I suspect that most of us would would take great care to do that before we handed over the car! 😉

We get / got three years worth of Map Care included with the new car. The OTA update will update the local map - UK and Ireland for most of us - but not the rest of Europe. You'd need to do an update via USB to get the full set of maps updated ...

Philip, I agree that it should not make any difference which platform/OS/browser you use. My experience is it does not like an iMac with either the Apple Safari or Google Chrome browsers. Edward seems to have the same issue using a MacBook (same OS) but using the Microsoft Edge browser.

In all cases it will download but shows not data after you try to unzip it. I’ve tried a number of ways to unzip it and get the same result.

Id be interested is someone is able to download and unpack on an Apple iMac/MacBook platform? If they manage what version of the OS are they using?

I should have added that I could not get the downloaded file to unzip if I used a Chrome browser on a Windows laptop.

Thanks Alan, I used The Unarchiver and it did not work for me?

When I get a few moments I’m going to give it some thought and play with things.

Try this one Erine there is one option for the Mac I don't know if it is compatible with your OS.

Just managed to unzip the original Safari file using 'The Unachiver' (version 4.3.5) which I've used before but seems to have been hidden since I upgraded to macOS Monterey (currently 12.6).

Slightly off topic but I noticed this morning that there is now an option in My Toyota (and not the version of MyT that I have currently) to specify the countries / regions that are updated OTA. So I could now have both "UK and Ireland", and "France and Monaco" updated OTA without bothering to create a USB ...

... but since I use the same USB on both the RAV4 and the C-HR I'll probably stick with the USB approach. 🙂

Then you've unpacked the downloaded zip file incorrectly and altered the file structure. The only thing you should see at the USB root is the FMU folder. The ISO files and checksum should be within that folder.

Also, by now you should be using 2023 v1 (rather than the 2022 v2 referenced in this thread).

Hi I am using the V1 2023 SW as per my.toyota, i tried to edit my post earlier but the site went down, Ive changed the files around and put them all in an FMU folder ,  I did infact unpack it exactly as you described above first and that didnt work, but i have tried another USB drive. But all i get is "no new software or media not inserted" message, when i actually insert the usb it takes about 10 secs for this message to appear.  Could it be the USB im using a 1TB USB type 3 drive - and thanks so much for your response
