Looking at buying a T25 Avensis roughly year 2003-2005 £2.500 budget (auto only) got a few questions though.

Hey all.

I am going to be shopping for a new to me car the end of this year or early next.  And the T-25 Avensis 1.8VVTi's keep coming up on my Autotrader searches and look quite nice.

Now having done a bit of research I have come across multiple reports of oil consumption issues and even engines being ruined by this.   So before I begin to really commit to the T-25 I've a few questions.

1. Has the oil consumption issue been resolved, I've seen some threads on forums detailing updated piston rings/pistons.  Should I be looking for proof this work has been done?

2. What sort of actual real world MPG is everyone getting, anything close to 39mpg would be ideal (current vehicle does this)

3. Any other major pitfalls or issues to be aware of?

For an example with history, two keys and under 80k miles with an autobox, seems the normal rate on Autotrader.

can't say for that model, I purchased a T27 that was struggling with a cough, aka a dirty EGR, it only took a 40 minute easy job to clean. The other very fixable albeit more hassle thing is the light bowls that lose their reflective coating. Their disassembly is a chore but for a few bob and some aluminium tape cut into traingles is very fixable.
