Puddle and interior lights

Hi all

I’ve experienced a strange situation, I park my rav in the garage and lock it.

last night it had been parked up and locked for around 5 hours when I went into the garage via a door from my kitchen and the interior light rear and the puddle lights were illuminated the car was still locked and the mirrors folded.

Thinking this was strange I went to get my key but on my return the lights were out, I stood there for a few minutes and they came on again for around 5 seconds the faded back out.

The car stared without any issues this morning so I assume that it’s not happening continuously.

can anyone shed any light excuse the pun on this.

it’s a hybrid excel AWD

 Many thanks

many thanks

Hi,

this is normal occurrence. The car senses the key been  close by which means you are around and these are welcome lights to help you navigate around the car at dusk. This option can be switched off via car settings menu or with obd 2 adapter., if you prefer without it. Once you leave the car the proximity sensor will detect that tell the car to turn off the lights again. Cars are king of smart these days. 🙂

Thank you Tony

I’ve just tested that theory and hey presto

I’ll have to store my keys further away.

many thanks

Maybe get a Faraday pouch and place the keys in there, that also stops the keys being cloned remotely.
