PHEV - strange mpg on MyT app

Over the last couple of times I’ve done a regular 115mile trip I’ve tried once again to see what the difference there is between my normal practice, use EV Battery capacity until it auto switches into HEV mode, against HEV mode from the start.

Conditions were very similar, road traffic, weather, etc.

My standard method gave familiar results.

the second gave these results with the consumption figure of 523mpg, if only.

Anyone similar strange results and any thoughts on what is going on?

Obviously I don't have any comparable results ... 🙂

Interesting though - Ernie is very consistent in terms of time and speed. In "EV first" mode you did ~61 ICE miles; in "all HEV" mode you did ~68 ICE miles - so there's not that much to be gained by telling the car what to do vs. letting it decide for itself.

As for the 523 mpg, I've no idea other than it is just plain 'rubbish' - MyT has either done the wrong calculation or done the calculation wrong! 😉

Agreed about about 10% EV distance improvement using my normal driving, EV mode till it switches into auto HEV mode. Nothing spectacular but worth having when the EV costs were significantly lower. In reality there is nothing to do as the car automatically starts you in EV only mode by default. I just leave it there and let the car then do it’s own thing.

It is really weird about the 523mpg, I’ve tried a few off beat calculations but can not find what’s happened in the pp.

this topic is about mpg but nowhere on the posts is any reference to how much fuel was used. Surely if you have done 115miles and you only used a fraction over 0.2 galls of fuel then the 523 miles the looks possible.

I take your point but it’s difficult to calculate the fuel used without a fairly accurate over mpg from the MyT app. In the past I’ve used approx 1.3 gallons so with approx 68 miles using the ICE on the first trip, above, it’s around 52.3mpg.

the PHEV My T app always calculates the overall mpg ‘including’ the EV distance.

They are two identical journeys using different driving modes but the same speed and distance.

In the first instance MyT reports 115 miles at 82.5 mpg which equates to ~1.4 gallons used. The journey was actually ~50 EV miles and 65 ICE miles - so in ICE mode the car is running at ~ 46.4 mpg which is pretty much exactly what you would expect from a HEV. That figure is perfectly plausible ...

The second just isn't ...

In the second instance My T reports 115 miles at 523.1 mpg which equates to ~0.2 gallons used. The journey was actually ~50 EV miles and 65 ICE miles - so in ICE mode the car is running at ~ 325 mpg which is not credible - it's just bonkers ... 😉 Which is what you said in the first place!

I had something similar a while ago. On a 7 mile trip I spent 482% of the time in EV.

It does say the data from the app is approximate at the bottom! 🤣

You have to wonder what calculation is being done to table results so wildly incorrect. I'd have thought that a simpler couple of lines of code could check to see that the EV time had not been calculated to be more that 100%.

We all know it's wrong it just seems to reduce the confidence in the app.  This or a similar app will be essential if you own the new Bz4x getting the sums incorrect could mean the difference between making it to the charge station and being stranded on the road somewhere.
