Just a thought, if there is an accident does the SOS call feature use the MyT data?

If so more than half the time it will send the emergency services to the wrong place.  I don't really want to test it, but one assumes it uses the same data.

Don't think so, there is no need to "test" the system, it does a test itself every time you start the car, I'm sure the system uses a GPRS signal

Don't worry, won't be a problem in a few years when they switch off 2G and 3G and the system stops working anyway!

I might be talking out the top of my hat but I seem to recall GPRS is used in a lot of low level communication systems because it is available everywhere, it does not require a strong signal............maybe lol 🤷‍♂️

No you're quite right. 2G remains very useful for quite a lot of low-power applications (SMETS1 is another one). Shutdown is slated for no later than 2033 so it remains to be seen.

But not all systems use GPRS. Newer models have moved to 3G (which is an even worse choice). Presumably some have moved to 4G. It all seems a bit of a mess and so far vehicle manufacturers are showing no inclination to offer upgrades.

I wonder how this will effect the legality of the vehicle given that eCall is mandatory.

My issue is MyT will always update when I turn the car off, so the DCM is working, it just updates the wrong location nearly 50% of the time, but the mileage, fuel and weather the car is unlock are always correct. So if this is the same information the eCall accesses, then it will call with a signal, but relay wrong information. eCall is also on our Yaris so I assume doesn't use the nav function.
