T22 7AFE Shaking at idle

Hey guys!

I've been experiencing some weird rev shaking when idling. The shake is not really strong, but is noticeable. The engine runs well otherwise.

Should I not bother with it?

I have read that it could be an issue related to MAF sensor but I am not sure.

Here is a showcase of the problem:

What do you think?

Hi Adam,

I've no experience with the Avenis so can't comment on that model and there are others here who have a wealth of knowledge.

However watching your video clip it's clear that the rev counter is fluctuating. My hearing isn't great now but can I hear the indicate ticking away in the background? It seems as though the dips in the engine revs correspond with the timing of the indicator interval.

If that is the case I'd be inclined to look for either a loose or bad electrical connection, perhaps a alternator that isn't producing the right voltage and may require replacement or overhaul or something simple like the alternator drive belt that needs adjusting.

Hi,

The issue is also present when the indicators are off, so I don't think it has something to do with them.

The 7AFE engine is generally smooth, having owned one years ago. It will be hard too pinpoint the cause without being there in person, but there could be probable causes.

Age of the car means components are not as strong as they once were. These could be the engine mounts, rubber vacuum pipes, the HT leads, the crank pulley, I could go on. I always used original spec Denso Iridium spark plugs. Has the exhaust recently been replaced or any work on the engine? I have a fault with the inlet port system when the lever attached to the vacuum switch detached.

Are there any noises or rattles when the engine vibrates? That will give you an idea what to check.

I am going to do regular maintenance this weekend (replacing air filters included) so maybe this may help to diagnose the issue.

Thanks for your advice.
