Corolla 2.0 GR Sport 2021. With the car being so quiet, a rattle (of sorts / something loose) is coming from the dashboard area when I go over a bump, to the point where it is now becoming irritating. My first thought was the steering wheel rake/reach adjustment mechanism leaving something loose and making the noise, then I wondered whether the noise was coming from the plastic in the dash for the HUD. Other than that, I have no idea. Before I go down to the dealership and they start messing with the car, has anyone else experienced a similar thing that can be quickly resolved? Are there any common issues that I should know about?

Thanks

Has the noise just appeared Chris or has it been there since new ?

Can you associate the noise appearing after something being done to the car, eg  a service etc ?

Probably better persevering and trying to locate the noise yourself before rushing to the dealer 👍

I get a rattle from the passenger seat belt buckle if it doesn't sit fully returned. Another annoying one is the poor quality rear shelf not sitting in the bracket. This occurs when I've got stuff in the shallow boot - 2.0 model.

Sorry for not responding - forgot I'd posted this last week! I've had the car just over a month (21 plate) so obviously not had any work done since I got the car. The rattle is still there - I need to have a good look around to try and identify the issue. I presume the noise has been there since the car was delivered to me but I was so excited about getting the car it may not have registered at the time...!

Sometimes easier to find the source of the noise Chris if someone else drives the car while you try to locate the source.

Hopefully when found easily sorted, keep us posted 👍

Hello, I have also rattling sound in dash and I located that it is big dash plastic part near windshield (farest part). When I just simply press it with hand, rattling is gone. I was at dealer, but they told me, that since I have changed windshield (damaged by rock), there is no warranty at this part and they will charge me for demounting dashboard... In the summer it was OK, but when is temperature under 15°C, it starts rattling. I will try to found out way how to open top part and just fix it. I also noticed annoying seatbelt buckle when it is not in right position 😄

That’s typical for many Toyota models therefore try to not pay attention to small rattles and creaks. Hard plastics always cause these issues. 👍

I have the same issue as Maxi, when the weather is below 15 the dashboard rattles and creaks as soon as the car warms up it disappears. Noise appears to be around the HUD area. Very annoying

A delayed response due to Christmas and the New Year, but just to update... Car went in to the local dealership for the dashboard rattle. Car was with them for three days, so they had a thorough investigation. Upon collection I was told that the previous dealership had (for some unknown reason) dismantled the lower part of the dash board and had left many of the bolts and fasteners not tightened up properly. Result is that the car is now totally silent rattle-wise and a joy to drive again. I was convinced the noise was coming from the HUD set-up, so was totally surprised by the outcome. Whist the car was in, they also told me I had a faulty tyre valve (replaced) and one of the sensors wasn't even connected to the monitoring system (also rectified). The only outstanding issue now is that one of the wheels need to be replaced due to water ingress under the lacquer which has bubbled and flaked off (again under warranty). Only cost to me was £20.00 for the insurance on the loan car (a 72 plate Aygo X). One happy Toyota customer....

Previous dealer not a good one then. Not what you would expect if they are a Toyota dealership. It reminds me of some years ago I travelled 80 miles to a Toyota dealer that seemed more like a back street garage. Unwelcoming atitude and the car I was interested in on their forecort looked like a raided spare parts vehicle. There were parts missing everywhere. Shocking was the word. Needless to say they didn't get my custom.

Only bought from the more distant dealership due to the fact they had the car I wanted in the colour and spec I wanted. My local dealership did not have a nearly new model available to match my needs. Sale was agreed. I paid £200 for the car to be delivered on a truck - it was driven from Leeds and arrived absolutely filthy; I specified a PCP deal of 9k a year - they did one for 10k before I noticed; a scratch which I was assured would polish out was not done on delivery, so I have my reservations in one or two areas. I was going to complain but it's now 4 months so I've probably left it a little late now. Having said that (and despite the few issues) I absolutely love the car and wouldn't want anything else.

I too have the same issue dash issues, I have a 21 design so no hud. Seems to be coming from the plastic trim near the windscreen but possibly within the dash. I'm use to the car rattling (especially in the boot) but this has come on suddenly and is incredibly irritating

Mine has a random periodic one from the rear roof light. I can replicate it by whacking it, a job for a dry day  I think.

Fixed. 2 minutes. Popped it out and wrapped a squeak of loom tape around the clips.

Few days ago I noticed something similar. It's not related to bumps, but "quality" of concrete. Or when I drive on small rocks on low speed. It's like quick rattling of....something...I'm not able to identify the source - if it's sonething behind dashboard (passenger side) or something in engine bay, or license plate holder...very hard to identify it. I have to check that longer, maybe it's wiring loom or it's like brake pipe out of it's holder in engine bay...

Today my is in dealer. It took 1 month to get spevific insulation for dashboard. Toyota recommend to install it in fabric (to prevent dashboard rattling sounds) but factories are not doing it. I saw that insulation parst - some of them is grey foam 3cm thick with one sticky side, another parts are thin and black. They'll install it today

@rado77 Was this done under warranty or at cost to you? I still have the intermittent rattle in the dash, can't find the source and not prepared to take the car apart 😂

Yep, this is done under warranty. Meanwhile I checked YouTube and found few videos where guys changed Speakers in dashboard...from that I learned how to get by hand behind glowbox, how to remove plastic cover for Speakers, unmount Speakers and so on...so I think that we'll be able to solve this issue by ourselves (by pieces of foam between plastic parts, putting all wires to foam pipes and so on). For my car it looks like dasboard is touching passenger's airbag module, because when I put my hand to that area, rattling stops

Any update what specifally rattles? TS 2.0 2020 and it drives me nuts- pushing down onto dashboard various places did nothing

Posted

Hi Pavel. Are you from Slovakia or Czech republic? We can use private messages...If not, I'll write it here. So...the fact is (shocking!) that Toyota manufacturers are saving some money and they don't put insulation material under dashboard even if Toyota Company suggest to do. My dealership ordered this material and showed it to me - pieces of foams , sticky on one side, some of them are black, some are grey. These parts weren't there but it should be! Dealer installed it under my dashboard (whole dash must go away and then back) and annoying rattling stops. That's the thing! Crazy right? If your car is still under warranty, ask the dealer to order and install it. It's cost free

It is out of warranty. Hmm I wonder whether they have the manual in their paid portal…

Answer is: “they do not” 🙁

Hi there.

I’m from The Netherlands and also have a rattling issue.

left hand driven car, rattle is on the far right behind the gloves box just under the window. I removes the a pillar, speaker grill and speaker itself. Pushed down on everything wile rattling but no luck.

driving me nuts!!

The dealer here is very understanding and helpful but not succeeded to fix the issue.

You guys got any luck?

Yeah....even if the dealer put foam under dashboard, I hear this rattling from time to time. It depends on road surface type, and (maybe) weather. If I press on dashboard where is passenger airbag, it stops. That means (for my car) that there's small gap between airbag module and dashboard. Too small, or too big....I don't know. I dont care anymore...my car is doing few noises depending on outside temperatures. This rattling occure during summer, while during winter I hear something from front suspension, but not during summer on the same road. Solution - volume up

I have recently bought  2 litre facelift 2023 GR Sport and have an annoying vibration on slightly poor road surfaces. Mine appears to be from the steering wheel horn / air bag cover, as holding this silences it. As a family we have had arguably poorer quality cars without this issue. Frustrating.
