TOMTOM SatNav

I have a brand new TomTom 6" SatNav.

Not being at all "Tech Savvy" at my old age, I wonder if there is any way I can plug this new SatNav into my car so as to use the Screen that was O.E. in the car.

2012 Avensis T Spirit 2.0 Ltr Diesel .

Please keep the fixes simple to understand and implement.

Many thanks and Regards, John

The simple answer is no! TomTom units with screens don't have the capability to cast to an external screen, as far as I know. Plus, not sure if the original built in car unit allows screen mirroring.

You would have been better off replacing the stereo with a better unit, if you wanted full integration.

If you could do the screen mirroring, the cars screen may be of a lower resolution compared to the TomTom, so everything will be less clear.

You will have to use the TomTom as standalone screen. I went to the TomTom site - page https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/navigation/car-gps-sat-nav/go-essential/#5inch

I had bought the new TomTom before I purchased the Avensis, for use in my Jaguar where the SatNav is ancient.

Now I have been informed that the TomTom cannot be connected to the Avensis Screen, I would ask for any information on the possibility of updating, and how to do so, the Data on the Avensis SatNav.

Many thanks for anticipated help and information, Best Wishes and Regards, John

If you search and read through this forum, you will find comments about the built in navigation unit. The cost of updating officially is probably as much as your TomTom! The built in system is not flexible to use, like inputting destinations. The updates are still out of date. Some owners have gone to online sites to obtain updates cheaply.

Standalone systems like your TomTom or mobile phone based systems like Google maps or Waze, are preferred. A few owners replace the stereo with an aftermarket unit. You are better off using your TomTom connected via bluetooth, saving extra cost.

Here is a link about the unit you may have - https://mag.toyota.co.uk/toyota-touch-2-how-to-update-your-maps-and-software/

Many thanks for a straight forward and direct answer. I imagine I will have to get to understand my new TomTom, as I certainly cannot seem to affectively manage/use the in car original SatNav .

Many thanks and Regards, John
