Should automatic side doors stop when something is in the way?

Hi folks,

Should the automatic doors stop closing if something is in the way? I noticed one of my kids attempted to jump in to the car whilst the door was closing and it just kept on closing. I suspect the doors do not have any sensors to detect motion? In the meantime, i have had to stop the automatic closing because i'm worried one of the kids will get caught and injured. If it doesn't have a sensor, is this somethnig that can be installed?

Hi Bigred247

I expect some sort of sensor just like a automatic garage door.

It's some kind of load on the motor sensor, had a bit of dirt on the under rear window track and it would not close until I found it and removed the tiny bit of grit.

On the other hand the doors might just not like your kids 😂

All sensors can FAIL try puting somethink in its way like a foam or a pumpkin that your kids a\re finished with after halloween or just a balloon.

Thank you for the info and suggestions. Will give it a whirl and update the thread with how it goes.

Whilst I agree, my door only half closed before re-opening suggesting a motor overload type sensing rather than a safety edge type.

Automatic garage doors use verious types of sensors and sometimes a combination of two types.
