Hey guys 🙂

so my good ol avenny failed the NCT yesterday on rusted/corroded brake pipes in the rear, kind of annoying because i thought it was gonna fail on other stuff but hey ho haha,

I just wanted to ask if anyone has done this job before or has any experience in it? like is it an awkward job to do as such,

and if anyone has any diagrams or pictures as to where exactly these pipes are(or where they are exposed to the elements) it would be greatly, greatly appreciated!!

Thank you 🙂

What does the report say? You'll propably know what pipes have failed once you get under the car.

Like Mr. Stivino wrote, it should be in the report.

I have done these kind of jobs back in 80´s and 90´s (but I would not like to do it anymore)...

So I suggest that take the car to a workshop. They have pipes, supplies and appropriate tools.

The rusty pipes are likely the short, transverse ones...

It just says that they were corroded, both lines in the back,

They're usually the ones that have a bend in them and are exposed isn't it?

It literally just says " rigid brake line corroded/kinked/

Is it still the case that the MOT tester has to mark up the area of concern that they have failed a vehicle on?

They used to use yellow wax crayon to indicate where the corrosion was or where the damage was to helpn prevent any confusion. Or perhaps have a word with the tester and hopefully he can let you where to look.

Have you been under the vehicle to check? This would give you some idea as to how involved or extensive a repair was likely to be.

He has to define exactly what pipe he has failed and what part of the pipe has failed.

And, it can't be kinked unless someone has been doing something to it, so it must be corroded.

All brake pipes are exposed and have bends in them.

Do you know what pipes were replaced, how much was it etc?

So where the U bend is coming out of the hose/caliper about a foot and half and two feet were replaced, male and female union cost me about 15 euro if i remember correctly and the brake pipe im not sure because my mechanic had a roll of it,you can buy 25ft of it from Halfords for about 12euro,cheaper if you have a trade card🙂awkward enough !Removed! of a job tbh haha

I am suprised to see its jointed they make more by replacing more pipe.

I put the joint there.  The original was one piece from front to rear.

If you look at my albums, you’ll see pictures of how it was.

Well in that case you wont make any more cash as you doing it yourself but saved a packet of cash in doing it youself plus a saving in tubing and your time.

I had enough pipe left over from a long time ago.  But I had to buy another roll since, I think it was £10.  The ends are only about 20p each.
