No new UK orders for UK RAV 4 PHEVs?

Just been told by Drive the Deal that Toyota UK are not accepting any new PHEV orders. Apparently due to Battery component supply problems and the large backlog of current orders. You may notice that the RAV 4 PHEV brochure has disappeared from Toyota online brochures + you can build one, but not order one online. Similar to BZ4X that I was also interested in (latter brochure still there but cannot order yet). RAV 4 HEVs not affected.

It certainly looks like the car manufacturers are going to be struggling for some time to overcome the supply shortages.

I’m guessing that it won’t just be Toyota that are still having issues?

Happens in a lot of industries that need microchips or wiring looms, shortages due to war in the Ukraine are hitting hard.

A lot of vehicle manufacturers source there wiring looms from the Ukraine plus also xenon & Krypton gases which is essential to the manufacturing of microchips.

This happens from time to time - even in normal times. It was true back in 2020 when my dealer couldn't order my car. It may also be true for the period when Toyota are transitioning between model years.

Component shortages and supply chain issues won't help, of course! 😉

I read an article yesterday saying that Toyota are going to start supplying only one smart key on many models (not sure which market it was talking about, or the validity of the source) due to chip shortages for fobs. The other would be supplied to the customer at a later date, just so they could remove that bottleneck. Crazy times.

According to bulletins from both Toyota (RAV4 PHEV) and Lexus (NX450h) considering current component supply restrictions 2023 build allocation is already sold out so for the time being (assume this means until supply restrictions ease and factory capacity can increase) no further orders for either models will be accepted.

I can confirm all the above posts are true….just called in to a Toyota main dealer today, and they could not take an order for any RAV4 PHEV!🥲

Existing orders for RAV4 PHEV Dynamic Premiums will also (probably) not be fulfilled.! I can’t wait for that 📞 after waiting for the last 7 months!😡

And no date available yet, for when orders can be taken for the GR Sport RAV4.

What a complete ........ !

Very frustrating, I’d have hoped that the dealer would have been keeping you updated rather than you having to chase them.

No news at all from my dealer, this forum is by far the best source of information.

I wonder if the Lexus NX450H is having the same problems, or whether it’s available to order at the moment..I might have to have a look at those soon!

Definitely don't order and accept a car with half the functions missing because of the chip shortage.

Before the R4P I'd actually ordered a Volvo XC60 PHEV T8 or something.

Spec sent through, checked it with a fine tooth comb and all good. Then Volvo got in touch and said here is the final spec to check and sign. Pages of data. Fortunately I spotted "Driver Assistance" pack had changed name to "Driver Assist". Strange. Surely just a misprint. Nothing sent to me to say something had changed.

No. Upon challenge it transpired that the blind spot warning was now no longer supplied so they subtly changed the name hoping no one would notice. I said to the Volvo North UK fleet manager, is there anything you now need to tell me about what else might be missing. He said, oh, well, the cross traffic alert was missing and something else I don't recall. A Volvo with half the safety features missing? Not much point in that. That's like Vienetta ice-cream without the chocolate layer. Imagine the disappointment opening that box at Christmas in 1982!  No mate. I don't do business like this. That was deceptive. Order cancelled.

Glad I got the R4P despite the dodgy 12V system.

They are all going to be trying it on now.

They ‘all’ have been for the past year of so. BMW and Ford have deleted items and subtly renamed model designations at various times, no doubt many others too. However I do agree that given Volvo’s pitch is safety it is a bit disingenuous to delete safety tech….. I appreciate the component shortage is not of their making but given Volvo is Chinese owned I am surprised they do not have better supply

Beware the 13th! Sooo prices up £710 and Dynamic has morphed into GR sport (kerching!). Not sure what this means for PHEV Dynamic trim orders as no details given (with order book still closed).

Take some comfort bZ4Xs are up £1930 .

Ah, that is good news.  Hopefully, my Dynamic Premium will npw be built as a GR Sport, plus pano-roof, and may not attract the price rise?

Are there any details on the specification for the new model?  I currently only have limited internet access, so I can't look it up!

Well, yes, if you go to the website and 'build' one ...

But neither the Brochure nor the Price List have yet been updated to show the GR Sport rather than the Dynamic.

And it's a HEV - so somewhat off topic for this thread ... 😉

There's still no sign or an orderable PHEV ...

Small steps... 😁

Toyota uk website now showing the RAV4 GR Sport in HEV form and on price list.

Brochure now showing RAV4 PHEV Dynamic Premium again, but not on price list….a small step forward maybe!

The December Price List shows what you might pay if only you could order RAV4s. The HEV is shown in Icon, Design, Excel and GR Sport grades - and, bizarrely, the GR Sport appears as a 6-door car! The PHEV comes in Design and Dynamic grades and the Dynamic has a Premium pack option shown. This list of MY23 cars is probably correct and for folk with cars already on order this might be interesting ...

The brochures simply haven't been updated for months and show MY22 (or MY21) grades and specs.

Vienetta

Apparently the result of a new production line technique looking for a product to be used on, rather than the other way round. Or so said the Van Den Berghs man at at course I once  attended.

After the Rav4 phev stopped taking orders, I enquired about the Suzuki Across, which is a Badge engineered Rav4 prime.

Available to order now with 5% discount off list price. Has the new infotainment system coming in the next Rav4 already, and delivery time quoted as 4 months.

Only downside I can see is it doesn't have the 10 year Toyota warranty, even though it's manufactured in the same factory production line.

Anyone else explored this?

The original Suzuki Across only had a 3.3kW charger not the Toyota 6.6kW, that might have changed now?

It has…. The downside is there are no options such as Pan roof or JBL although I think the front styling is better than the RAV.

Great it always seemed strange that they were pretty much identical in every respect except the ‘fast’ charging.
