No new UK orders for UK RAV 4 PHEVs?

So Suzuki Across ordered.

I read the Ts and Cs on the Toyota 10 year extended warranty and realised it is not with stressing about.

Highlights were:

Section 13 exclusions

 - a) Maintenance parts (e.g. [non exhaustive list of examples, which includes diagnostics, so you'd have to pay for this in order to check eligibility to claim. And belts! These should be covered if they have been replaced as per maintenance schedule.]

 - b) Rubber parts (e.g. [non exhaustive examples of parts that include rubber]);

 - d) Interior (e.g. trims, seat covers, cushions, carpets, ventilation louvers, ash trays, cigarette lighter, shift lever knob, dash cover and pad, steering wheel);

 - h) Certain individual parts and components e.g. [gives non exhaustive list of example parts]

 - i) All parts outside of vehicle body [so inside and outside are both excluded]

Section 16 exclusion

 - e) Faults with the Vehicles at the time of service [so if the fault is identified during a service it isn't covered]

Amusingly, cigarette lighters seem to be both included and excluded

So i'd be paying a premium every main dealer service to maintain this extended warranty, but it has so many exceptions I could end up having to pay the main dealer repair cost for something that turns out to be excluded.

So I'll take my chances with the 3 year warranty on the Suzuki, and enjoy the freedom to use independent garages for my servicing!

Plus the fact I can't actually order the Toyota - that's the main reason!

I think a lot of the exclusions would be covered under the 'knock off' and 'fair wear and tear' category.

Suzuki and most other manufactures offer extended warranties beyond 3 years if you are ready to pay for that.

It surprises me why Toyota's 10 year warranty is a conditional offer unlike Kia's 7 year direct manufacture's warranty. If you don't get your car serviced by Toyota the warranty is actually 3 years only - reduced from 5 years standard in 2021.

Block exemption doesn't apply to extended warranties - so the vast majority of vehicle manufacturer extended warranties require that servicing is undertaken within the marque's dealer network - so no different to Toyota's Relax service generated extended warranty aside from having to pay additionally for the extended warranty.

Third party extended warranty providers can also stipulate where/by whom the car is serviced during the extended warranty period.

Toyota don't have a 10 year warranty - They have a 3 year warranty; This whole 10 year warranty thing is misleading marketing BS.

The Relax warranty is a 1 year extended warranty that you get 'free' with every Toyota service that can be renewed up to the car's 10th year of age.

They used to have a paid-for extended warranty, but you still needed to service it with them - I'm willing to bet Suzuki's extended warranties require you to service it with Suzuki, for instance, so that's not unusual.

I'm not sure if the Relax warranty replaced that completely or if you can still get it (The old paid extended warranty was slightly more comprehensive and included some extras like breakdown cover), but I think Relax was a way to soften the higher servicing costs. It's a nice incentive given how much warranties from e.g. warranty direct cost.

FWIW - I had a genuine Peugeot manufacturers extended warranty on my previous vehicle & it wasn't worth the paper it was written on when you attempted to claim on it.

Only manufacturers extended warranty I've had that has been any good was a Rover one back in the late 1990s.

According to bulletins from both Toyota (RAV4 PHEV) and Lexus (NX450h) considering current component supply restrictions 2023 build allocation is already sold out so for the time being (assume this means until supply restrictions ease and factory capacity can increase) no further orders for either models will be accepted.

Still waiting for my 2021 Hev Dynamic Premium. So the backlog is LONG.

For all those critical of Toyota’s delivery times, VW have stopped taking orders on some Up! variants to allow for backlog. This is in addition to restricted ID3 supply, inability to order the Octavia PHEV and so on. Many Other manufacturers are in a similar situation. I do accept I was very fortunate with getting my PHEV when we did and if I was still waiting for a car ordered a year ago I would be pretty fed up but going to another manufacturer isn’t guaranteed to speed up the arrival of a new car.

On the bright side, it'll keep residuals high for existing owners across all brands in the second hand market.

Except maybe brown Dacia Dusters. They should continue to depreciate alarmingly.

And to add JLR have an order backlog in excess of 200,000 vehicles. Given their annual production is dwarfed by Toyota, that is probably equivalent to Toyota having an order backlog of 2million cars……

Absolutely. I'm a colour snob, not a Badge snob.

Peugeot wouldn't and couldn't actually fix several major issues for me on my 3008 GT hybrid4 despite it being 3 months old. Spent most of the 10 months I had it in the dealership not actually getting fixed. That's not an exaggeration. Not even a cheap car. Same cost as the R4P albeit that wasn't out when I ordered the Pukego. Total garbage company. It's why I switched to Toyota.

I'd take a second hand AWD drive brown one.

In all honesty, I would too as long as the price reflected the colour.

This is funny, my current car is a white UN Peacekeeper style duster. 2014 plate Cost me £6k in 2020 and it had done 20k miles. It's yet to do me wrong.

I do like the duster - looks utilitarian and purposeful. Looks good in white.

But that Dacia brown paint colour is horrible.
