Crappy headlight vision

Hello Auris users!

I am getting very annoyed with the cars headlights. Barely visible lights imo.

Have driven multiple times now in plain dark roads, high beam felt like low beam on every other car ive been in.

Can someone recommend me the best improvement headlights to buy and install?

The OEM are HIR2 12V 55W

GERLUX 2B36 U

E1120 LF

What a joke of a light setup imo. My handheld 10cm diameter flashlight gives better visibility LMAO!

Just editing that i had come across  this , wondering if this would really give so much improvement as advertised and if i would pass NCT here in Ireland.

Hello.

I got the more expensive bulbs fitted at the dealership. I’m not sure of the name of them but I think they were Philips.

They aren’t perfect but I think it was an improvement worth the cost.

im not sure if LED’s would be legal in the auris projectors either.

Good Evening I have also replaced the lamps by installing Philips The difference from the previous ones that were Toyotas did not satisfy me as they do not have sufficient lighting Of course, they burned very quickly outside of the time recommended by Philips (I have written about this before here) and so I would never choose the same ones I would like to take this opportunity to ask the following: Now the difference between the following bulbs: HIR2 12V 55W with HB3 12V 55W

Ουαου. Καλό να ξέρω. Νομίζω ότι το λευκό LED είναι η μόνη επιλογή...;

Το Hb3 δεν θα χωρούσε στην υποδοχή auris;

The HB3 high beam fits normally in my auris. Does HIR2 fit?

Have your lenses discoloured with age you can re-cut them with a compound its simlar to Tcut but for plastic lenses or replace them.

Think we're getting confused between the two generations of Auris.

The first generation (2007-2012) has H11 for low beam and HB3 for high beam. The second generation has HIR2 bulbs (from December 2012).

Xrhstosgr's profile picture is the dash/centre console for the first generation, and if this is their Auris, it will have H11/HB3 bulbs.

Tomashen 2015 Auris will be the second generation - HIR2 bulbs. If this is the pre-facelift second generation Auris, it will have the older type of headlight which some owners found to be poor.

Thanks for clarifying. I am not sure how to determine pre or not facelift. ? I have the Touch2 system if this helps?

And have the HIR2 as you mention. I have a photo of the bulb front back.

However just looking for advice if anyone here has had experience installing something brighter

Apart from the dimness, there was always a problem with the very sharp nearside cutoff on dipped beam. After very nearly hitting an invisible cyclist just around a bend in a country road on a dark night, I started using fog lights on all unlit minor roads. It may not be legal, but I never wanted to repeat that.

It was recognised as a problem by Toyota, and there was a fix, that I got done just before I sold the Auris (2014/64 plate). The fix did improve things a bit, but the lights were still mediocre.

good morning Is there a difference between HB3 and HIR2? Thanks

Only issue for the UK is that fitting LED bulbs in headlights designed for halogen would be an MOT fail -

- which presumably could be avoided by swapping the LED bulbs for halogen bulbs when the car is due an MOT.

Mine's a 2018 Auris - post facelift.  The original bulbs / light output was so poor as to be dangerous - imho. Brighter halogen bulbs were expensive but had a short (12 month) warranty, so I fitted LEDs.  Fitting LEDs works (and mine have a 3 year warranty) but it is illegal.  Had them over a year and never had an issue with dazzling oncoming cars. MOT tester didn't question them, but it's (fairly) easy to swap the old halogens back in for the test if you wanted to 'play safe'.

The LED lights I bought (from Auto bulbs Direct) work without any form of converter.  They are a straight swap.

I considered the Philips bulbs you ordered from Amazon. But they only have a 1 year warranty with several reviews about them lasting only few months.

Oh wow that is awesome. And the headlamp cap from inside the engine bay fits without modification too ?

And you have no errors or warnings about those lights?

Sorry for questions just trying to learn these things , im not very mechyy so to say.

Also, I will maybe return those lights and get what you posted because there is no way that the halogen will be any brighter than the LED equivalent at any point in this lifetime haha

Unfortunately there are no halogens that are bright enough to make any difference.
I just dont understand HOW this car is legal for sale with the current factory lighting setup. The road is simply invisible in dark. I like some others mentioned here before in the forum, almost hit a couple cyclists recently because of how BAD the road is unlit from the factory lighting.

have ordered the above 20Twenty LED bulbs and i really hope they help. Still waiting on delivery(1 week now)

I guess there's no specification for how much (or how little) light is put on the road.  Just like there is no specification for how loud the horn should be - I considered the Toyota horn on the Auris to be dangerous.  As a 'last-line-of-defence' against some truck running into you, it's little 'meep-meep' Roadrunner style horn is totally inadequate.  Just like the headlights.

hmmm yeah that is meh also but the least of my concerns. Visiblity is priority for me. "knock on wood" havent had to use horn much in my life yet.

i will 100% report back here when the new 20Twnty LED bulbs are placed in
