Removing the Electronic Parking Brake box

Is it possible to remove the EPB box on a 2012 Avensis Estate without removing or lowering the rear axle unit. It looks quite a tight fit up there, but can someone please describe what I need to do to remove it. 2nd question, once removed, is it possible to open the box without damaging it, clean and dry it out and regrease all the moving parts so that it runs smoothly again?

by chance do you have a problem with the epb stuck on you coulld screw the epb off from a wee hole in the car boot so you will be fit to drive it ok .i am not sure but what i hear is thos go out its the problem when water gets inside the box 😞

The EPB is still working but it's getting quite noisy when it is winding on and off so I was thinking of taking it off to clean it up and regrease the mechanism. The recent MOT said it got hot when they were working the brake for the test.

prob lem there is u do not want to lose zero point of the module because that will be a pure handling and plus i think those are a sealed unit alos maybe greasing it will be a bad job

Thanks for the hints. Let's see if there are other opinions. There is a lot of talk on forums that the water gets in so it can't be a very good sealed unit and for £1500 you would expect it to be sealed very well !!

my car is a 2014 one i never had any problem with mine but are there any vidoes on youtube about it i just know by on this forum and a guy had to fix his as one wire was frayed and he had to fix his and i think he ended up buying another one but £1500 is crazy money for them bring back the good old handbreak i hate these dam epb there just another money spinner is there a way maybe you could put the car in service mode for the handbreak and maybe take off the box leaving it all connected and see if there is any way water could have got in i think the main way water minght get in is threw the wires itself maybe .im not sure i never fixed one of those and its just me thinking. i know zero point on the epd is a pure handling if lost it .i changed my break pads and put my car epb into service mode to change rear break discs and pads tbh my pads were dont and well i knew about this epb zero point so i wanted to put bran new genuine discs and pads on as tbh could have got away with my discs but they were worn but would have lasted longer .

The book says to drop the rear subframe - if you can get at the 4 bolts for the box you should be able to get it out
