hey folks, hope i find you all well, so to my question.

Tonight one of my lovely customers (yes im a cabbie) decided to have a play with the near side rear electric window switch (i have them switched off most of the time to stop kids playing with them) but as this was an adult i agreed to allow him to put the window down which he did, upon arrival at his dest, he kindly closed the window for me only for me to find upon pulling away it was still open, i tried closing it with my master panel but although i could hear the motor whirring the window wasn't going neither up nor down, i am assuming that the cable has snapped, now can i just get the cable replaced or is it a whole new window mechanism? had to do it once before (full mechanism replacement as motor had burnt out but not this time) on the offside rear about 18 month ago and it wasn't cheap so was hoping somebody here would be able to advise what to expect when i take it to toyota to be repaired. thanks all

The windows are normally attached to a motorised scissor-like contraption (Which for some reason is called The Regulator), and it may be that the glass has somehow gotten detached from the arm thingies.

It may also be the cogs have somehow stripped and the motor is just turning but not gripping anything.

Can you pull/push the glass down/up semi-freely or does it still feel like it's firmly fixed to something?

If you can figure out how to get the door card off you may be able to have a look, but all that stuff is a massive PITA because the crash bars and inner door skin are in the way, which makes it hard to see what's going on sometimes.

Toyota are usually good about having access holes in the right place but it does depend on the car...

Is the car over 100,000 miles as otherwise this should be under warranty.
