My Rav 4 is on 70,000 miles. Service today and told both rear trailing arm bushes are worn out. Is this the norm ?

is there an issue with these bushes?

If you want to do the job yourself replace the complete arm.

You can just buy the bushes but you need a press to push them in.

Your bushes are just failing under normal wear and tear.

I’ve just had 2 front lower arms fitted on a 2010 model due to failing rear mountings. They were Moog brand. Don’t know if they do the rear arms for your model as well?

My 2018 4.4 had failing rear suspension bushes at 2 years/20,000 miles which I found wholly unacceptable.

After dogged persistence, Toyota acknowledged that the bushes produced after my build date had been modified and they did not expect a repeat of the failure over that same short period.

"I am also regret the disappointment caused by the warranty repair to the rear axle trailing arm front bushes.  There has been a specification change to these components since your vehicle was produced in 2018 and so we do not expect this issue to recur on your vehicle".

Perhaps worth referencing this?

Hi all,

I'm new to this website/owners club. We have just had an MOT fail on a 65 Rav4 with only 25,000 on the clock. We have been told this is just 'wear and tear' but it seems a bit much on a vehicle that has not done a high mileage. I'm hoping that the extended warranty is going to cover this job because Toyota will only replace the complete rear trailing arms at over 250 pounds each (ex VAT)!

Bill.

Why not try rear arm prices from third parties look on www.eurocarparts.com then goto eBay for a comparison check and pick a mfg you happy with.

you can buy the bushes on eBay for the rear trailing arms ( front) around £35 pair. Toyota quoted near £300 for the arm.

Had the same problem on my 2017 rav with only 22000 on the clock.

My brilliant Vertu Leicester Toyota dealer did it under warranty after I had agreed to pay for it not knowing any different.

Did the same on my 14 plate at 6ys/90K ish. Toyota only wanted to supply/fit arms at a ridiculous price, so had after market bushes fitted, just noticed uneven tyre wear on the inner edge of rear tyres and remembered the garage that did it wasn't able to press both parts of the bush in. 9yrs/125K and here we go again….
