God knows where to put this, but I felt like I had to share the link to this interesting vehicle.

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/700396507748619

It's a 2002 Corolla saloon, automatic with the 1ZZ-FE 1.8 engine we never got in the UK, about 120k miles.
Interesting car, and its not too expensive, only 1.6k. Would take it on board if I had the space or money

What do you guys think of it?

Might have originally come from Ireland  and  imported / re-registered here ?

Bit surprised by its 70mpg claim, never heard of an origianl Corolla doing that regularly.

From what we have read in the forum ,old Corolla Automatic gearboxes can be troublesome and very expensive to repair, if you can find anyone who would work on one .

Looks tidy. Did the Corollas ever have slushboxes or was it only the MMT?

Either way I'd suspect that is an MMT one if they can claim 70mpg, as no way a torque converter from the 2000s could get even in lying distance of 70mpg

MMTs were supposedly more long-lived and reliable with more powerful engines, but must admit I still wouldn't touch one given a choice. (Partly because of the rep but mainly because of my well known dislike of autoboxes!)

In the UK, the E120 corolla came with the 1.6 (3ZZ-FE) and slushbox.

The 1ZZ came with an MMT in the MR2 mk3 - but, the ad above looks like it's a slushbox. I'd be very sceptical about the 70 mpg claim regardless of gearbox. If I was hellbent on getting a 1ZZ, I think I'd prefer it in a MR2 🙂

This car looks like Japanese import to me. The Wiper Blades switch is on the L side, where usually the turn signals are for RHD eu cars.

speedo and mileage are in KM, so a gray import

a quick check, currently untaxed, first register in 2004, No euro spec, so it will be taxed on engine size so £265 it will not be ulez compliant so £12.50 a day

looking at the spec, it's a South African built  and sold

edit.

The book MPG is 34 - yes you will get 70mpg if you're just idling it, and your average speed is 5kph
