Good afternoon, everyone. Sorry if this sounds silly. If I get an air filter from the service kit before every service (9,000 mile interval), should I just replace it or wait until it reaches further mileage? I get the service kit because it works out cheaper than just getting the oil and filter/sump plug gasket. I'm asking this because according to my service book, it says to inspect the air filter every 20,000 miles and replace it every 40,000 miles. But it seems unnecessary to replace it every 9,000 miles 😕. If I hoard all the air filters I get, then there won't be space lol.

Car is a 2020 Corolla 1.8 Hybrid.

Same interval on my yaris hybrid 40k/4 years. Unless you are looking to sell the filter why not change it instead of hoarding?

Well, changing it seems to be a bit of waste since I think it should be replaced every 20,000 or so miles. However, like you said, I could replace it but at short intervals lol?

20-30k miles are good intervals for air filter replacement. However in some cases if the car been driven in dusty conditions, off road, desert, woodlands it might be worth checking and replacing at each service at 10k miles. I do change mine at 30k miles and it’s simply darker with few small debris which is an indication that the filter can be replaced at this time. 👍

It's a taxi, so most of its life means that it'll cruise around town and other areas. So that means I'll change it at 20k intervals. Thanks for the advice 👍

Best thing to do is open up the air filter and see how dirty it looks, removing any bits of leaves and rubbish that may be in the housing / vents.

Same goes for the cabin pollen filter which probably is worth replacing every 12 months as its the air you breathe.

Being a taxi, might be worth using one of those cabin air con / vent sprays / bombs to keep yourself heathy and the  cabin smelling fresher for your passengers.
