2lt petrol engine overheats after approx 20/30 mile run. Starts easily and runs smoothly from cold, engine oil is clear,no smoke from exhaust, Is there any known problem with this model ?

I'm not aware of any specific issues, but it's not unheard of for the thermostats to get stuck in older cars.

Also check that the water pump is turning and actually working - They tend to need replacing in Toyotas that old, did it in both my old 2004 Mk1 Yaris and my dads 2005 Corolla Verso (They were both diesels tho') as they were starting to weep coolant.

How's the coolant; Do you have to top it up? Any weird pink crystal deposits visible in the engine bay?
