I purchased a service plan with my local toyota dealership RRG. As I'm not happy with the service provided, could I go to an alternative toyota dealership or am I stuck with them for the duration?

You can use any Toyota for your service plan just tell them the plan number when booking the service.

Thanks for that

Hi Dave, I think if it's a dealer service plan paid to the dealer and not Toyota then you are obliged to remain with that dealer.

Mine for example is a monthly payment direct to the dealer.

However mine was a service plan, bought from the dealer too but paid monthly to Toyota.

Are there different types of service plan? As in e.g. you can buy one from Toyota which is honoured at any dealer, or get one that is only honoured between that dealer franchise, or even only that particular dealer?

Yes.

Some dealers/dealer groups offer their own plans, as do some extended warranty companies.

Often vehicle manufacturers contract with a third party (eg. EMaC) to manage service plans, take customer payments, approve claims for servicing, etc.

Similar to manufacturer branded car insurance - where the manufacturer contracts with an insurer to provide the own brand car insurance.

My payment is made to EMaC. Does this mean that I can't move?

I would contact EMaC to query whether you are able to change dealer. Manufacturers like Kia (and I think Toyota) use EMaC so they must be used to requests to change dealer, but it may depend whether the plan is a Toyota branded plan or dealer branded.

I had the same issue with warranty through Vantage Toyota. Wanted to switch to dealer closer to home but was not possible. One service and MOT to go and then I will switch if I still have the car

Yes you can move your plan to another dealer if you contact emac on 01270 505050 they will tell you if it locked to your dealership or if it nationwide toyota dealership. If it locked in to your dealership you will have to  cancel your plan which will incur a administration fee but be warned a nationwide plan cost more.

We were offered similar plans in Germany, but all were tied to the dealer itself. On inflation terms made sense, but if your dealer ends up being 'special', you'll need to file for divorce, and those are usually quite expensive processes...

... and the plans were pretty expensive, so we decided to play roulette with inflation costs.

😥

Either choice wasn't an easy one, but with the latter at least we can shop around, and we were able to find a dealer that offered the first service 200 euros less than the dealer we bought the car from.

EMac service plans are tied to RRG group and not valid at other dealers - I have asked in the past ! Never had a problem although service varies between the dealerships. Had excellent service from Bolton, some of the others not so good.

When I changed cars recently I bought from a different dealer and now have the national Toyota plan which allows me to use and Toyota dealer and had no problem cancelling the previous plan with EMaC.

We've had service plans for Mazda, Honda, Hyundai and Toyota bought through different dealer groups to RRG - all managed by EMaC

Ah, this is a fair point !. I was advised in the past by one dealer that they wouldn't accept the RRG/EMaC plan but you have reminded me that my latest service plan from an independent dealer has the direct debit collected by EMaC which surprised me. Someone once told me that EMaC was set up by one of the RRG directors ?

Back to topic, I am now confused and unsure of anything !

I just swapped my 2020 Icon tech with an exsisting service plan I had taken out on the Toyota website, through Toyota GB PLC. When I called monday before last they informed me Toyota have stopped transfering them over, so they would cancel it for me and give me a refund and I would have to visit my local dealer for a new service plan.

Went down on saturday and now have another plan with EMaC limited, Its hard to keep up with all the changes.
