Engine replacement?

Hi everyone, new to this group, have owned a Toyota Aygo 2011 for 3 years now. The air con compressor has failed and the bearings are so noisy, trying to find a new one and I was looking at the later ones but it got me thinking how didferent is an engine from a 2015 toyota aygo? They are still 1 litre 3 cylinder? Wondering if it would be possible to replace my current engine with a later one if it ever failed has anyone had any experience?

We have a similar Peugeot 107 (Mk1) and 108 (Mk2) both with Toyota 1.0 engine and although the engines look similar I noticed subtle differences, e.g. dipstick location, interior fuse box location etc. and suspect although engine should fit it will be the ancillaries/wiring loom/connectors style/location which probably different so making a simple plug n play bit more involved.

Personally they improved the Mk2 over the Mk1 in so many other areas for me I would just buy a Mk2, which we did with our 108, we chose a Mk2 rather than a late model Mk1, but it better quality car, better interior/seats etc. and a lot issues with Mk1 seem to be fixed, that being the point, majorish changes to Mk2 rather than just cosmetic changes to Mk1 over it's life cycle.

Yeah I agree with the above, just cut your losses and upgrade to a mk2 Aygo. They changed from late 2014 onwards so even a 2015 mk2 Aygo will be a 'new one to you' so to speak

It's the same base engine, but it's vastly different

AC compressor you need the correct one for your car, there are a few different types find the number on yours or drop me a PM with your vin

if the pump has broken up internally its more than likely put metal in the system - your looking to fully flush the AC and replace the receiver/drier/condenser - if money is an issue, change the fan/AUX belt for a non AC belt to bypass the compressor
