NIMH or Li-ion on a 2022 pre-facelift 1.8 hybrid?

Hi, I'm asking this question because I ordered a hatchback and it's arriving this week, but I noticed that some Toyotas come with either a nickel or lithium Battery. If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it.

Hi Paul,

the 1.8 variants comes with li-ion Battery. The 2.0 hybrids comes with Ni-mh, latest models 2023 will be equipped with new li-ion batteries in all variants.

I always get that mixed up! I still think it's weird that they put the NiMH pack on the 2.0 instead of the 1.8!!

Aren't Li-ion batteries more durable and more efficient though? Also, do you have any idea if the sedan version of the 1.8 (the one that's manufactured in Turkey) has the same Li-ion Battery as the hatch or is it on NIMH? I stumbled upon a guy who said the Battery on the two body types is different, but I don't know

The 1.8 Sedan has the Li-ion Battery too.

There are pros and cons to both.

I don't know about durability, but li-ion has better energy density and is lighter per Wh, isn't prone to 'the memory effect', and can cope with higher rates of charge/discharge.

NiMH's main advantages is it's considerably cheaper, is far less combustible and is less damaging to the environment.
