Owner's Manual vs User Guide

Recommended Posts

For those who've taken delivery of their cars, did you receive a physical User Guide or Owner's Manual?

The Owner's Manual that you can download has much more content compared to the User Guide that I received. And then there's the separate multimedia download as well.

I'm just wondering if I'm missing a document or the Owner's Manual is deliberately download only....

Toyota has been doing this for a few years now. You get a paper user guide with the car and the ability to download the full Owners Manual.

A brilliant idea IMHO - almost no one actually reads the paper Owners Manual and it is so much easier to access and search as a PDF.

Think the reason Toyota began supplying user guides (around 2015) instead of owners manuals was to reduce costs. You may be able to order/purchase a printed copy of the full owners manual from a Toyota dealer (which is what I did for the Aygo) - though the small print runs increases the cost.

For example with our current i20, the supplied printed owners manual is in excess of 560 pages, and the supplied printed sat nav/multimedia manual is in excess of 650 pages. Quite a chunk to go through ...

Thank you.

My other Toyota is really a BMW from a systems point of view so I just got an Owner's Manual with that, which made me think.

At least now I know how to turn off the boot closing and opening buzzer!

Way too much. I had a skim through, but life is short. I was interested in particular in how the panoramic cameras work when parking. A picture might paint a thousand words, but a video would paint a million! It would be helpful if the online manual linked to demonstration videos.

Volvo did an interesting thing with their XC40 EV. You had an online manual but it was also built into the car so you had access at all times.

You should be able to read the manual on the multimedia system....

Allegedly, it has a web browser. Has anyone tried it? I'd be a bit nervous myself because the web is a dangerous place these days. When the likes of trillion-dollar company Apple put huge efforts into keeping their browser safe, do Toyota have the same kind of resources to hand? Or is the browser largely crippled with reduced functionality?

It's absolutely fine.  You can navigate it online or download as a pdf.

In case prospective bZ4X owners haven't already realised, you can download your manuals here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/customer/manuals - just specify the Vehicle Model as a bZ4X and then download:

There are some interesting things to find ...

(The manuals linked above are for a car manufactured in November 2022 and in English ... 🙂 )
