Cigarette socket not working 2011 Avensis 2.0d4d Saloon

Hi all,

My Cigarette socket has stopped working, I have tried various USB plugs to rule out and it is definitely the car being the issue!

Any advice where the accurate fuse location would be for my year of car? Also, if this is all intact how do I replace the circuit and is it a simple fix?

Thanks in advance

Just to be sure, are you aware that the cigarette socket is only live if the ignition is not in the off position (for key operated ignition)?

You mean car needs to be on or on ignition? If so, yes standard I am aware of this and still not working.

The fuse for the cigarette/power socket is in the fuse box located beyond the glovebox. The following diagrams are from the owners manual which I downloaded from My Toyota -  https://www.toyota.co.uk/customer/manuals
The cover has the legends showing the position, rating and description of each fuse. You are looking for CIG rated at 15A. According to the manual for your car it is fuse 7. My car being '09 model year is fuse 8, so it is important to read the cover legend!

I found my post with photos showing the fuse box location

Here are the photos. Stoop low from the passenger side and low and look beyond the glove box.

I hope this helps.

Hi All,

Thanks for your prompt replies and helpful advise.

I did check the fuse and it was the exact location as you described @Konrad C, however they were all intact!

I taken the car to my local Mecannic to get it tested with the Meter, he kindly checked all the fuses and again were all positive. So, he inspected the power outlet which did not have any live current coming from it. After disassembling all the side panels and front console, to get to the whole ashtray and backing then unscrewing the backing to get to the actual power outlet, it was finally discovered a small component (size of a rice grain), underneath the power outlet that was fused!

However, after searching in the garage for a spare so called tiny component we ended up paying a visit to 4 hardware stores in search for a new power outlet and eventually found 1 in Motabits. This was then assembled back into the outlet hole with some chiselling as the new one was aftermarket. Fitting the springs back on for the ashtray door was a nightmare and pronging it back in.

After all above, a huge success and a learning curve as it may have been cheaper or definitely saved time in buying a second-hand power outlet 😑.

Thanks again all.

I forgot to included a post on dismantling the centre console ashtray and power socket. Glad you got it fixed and did some improvising to fit the new part. The other option would have been to source a second hand part, but that have cost more.

There is always a way to fix things. Well Done.
